I would be curious if the PLAN used any LCACs, if they've even built enough to fully load the 3 Type 071s with them. It would also be interesting to see if they integrated air support into the exercise, both land based and ship based aircraft. Since the picture came out of the Z-10 hovering over a ship helo landing pad I also wonder if they tried operating any off of the 071s rather than only Z-8s, or any other helo type for that matter.

LCAC? Probably not, and if so, with only one or two total.

They have at most two or three of their LCACs operational I believe.

Air support? I believe most definitely. They have practiced/exercised with it before.

As of now we have only three x Type 726 LCAC that's 3320 the original unit and two more 3321 and 3322

Now unless they have more of which I have seen no pictures that's still not enough to load out a Type 071 LPD what it means is actually there is one LCAC per LPD

China is sending Destroyer 171-Haikou, Frigate 575-Yueyang, Supply Ship 886-Qidaohu and Hospital Ship 866-Peace Ark to RIMPAC naval exercises.

Well, we talked last year about this likelihood, about a Type 052C, a Type 054A, and a supply ship...and now they are doing it and adding the Peace Ark to boot.

The PLAN is putting its best foot forward and this is good to see.

GREAT pic! and probably from the recent exercises.

There's your pic folks, and Asif, they did use at least two. My guess is that was it. If they had three there, they would have gotten a PR pic of all three. But this is the first time I have seen more than one used together in an exercises.

I am copying these LCAC posts over to the PLAN LCAC thread too.
