I understand that some people are saying this is replenishment ship, but do you have any idea why this is? I'm looking at it and it's way too incomplete for me to determine anything.

That is the one that was launched at Guangzhou on 21.03.12.

I actually think that Type 903A looks much like Type 903 (FUCHI 886 and 887), though something larger was expected.

Do not know about 903A, but 903 is 10,200 tons standard and 22,000 tons f.l., meaning DWT is about 12,000 tons.

btw can these replenishment tankers produce fresh water? i read somewhere that Type 071 LPD can make fresh water , very handy for when disaster relief operations are needed

Perhaps they can, by utilising extra heat from the engine to de-salinate the sea water
