. 547 and 572 launched this year but not named or commissioned yet. I believe before 2013 2-3 more will be launched and working their way through trials.

Maybe by 2013 16 Type 054A will be launched but something like 14 of them will be commissioned.

That's an impressive run for the PLAN. In fact the LPDs and the Type 052Cs production now are also quite impressive. t will be interesting to see where they stop those serial productions and then come up with a follow on design.

Based on previous building patterns, I made this estimate of construction rate for the last seven.

Hull 10 HD 5 launched 27.04.11, delivery 03.12 as 546 YANCHENG, for NSF

Hull 11 HP 6 launched 20.05.11, delivery 04.12 as 550 SIPING for ESF

Hull 12 HP 7 launch 02.12, delivery 01.13 as 572, for SSF

Hull 13 HD 6 launch 04.12, delivery 03.13 as 547, for ESF.

Hull 14 HP 8 launch 11.12, delivery 10.13 as 573, for SSF

Hull 15 HD 7 launch 04.13, delivery 03.14 as 574, for SSF

Hull 16 HD 8 launch 04.14, delivery 03.15 as 575, for SSF

So it should actually be 14 by 2013 as you say, my bad.

If they've the intention to retire all the Luda Class DDG (which the 054A FFG outshine it in all aspects, including size and displacement) and the Jianghu Class FFG, plus more for fleet expansion in order to fulfill demands such as carrier taskgroup components, we'll certainly see more of both 052C DDG and 054A FFG, both real-world and endurance proven designs to not just modernize but streamline the PLAN fleet.

The Jiangwei series, although obsolete by loadout, their hull is still too young to be written off, probably will be replaced when this phase of modernization have fill the armada with enough modern ships so they can begin to release older boats to do major refits.

nice list and most likely very accurate, considering we have alot of previous building patterns to go by!

it means by 2015
16 Type 064As
6 Type071 LPDSs
8-10 Type 052Cs
and Varyag will be battle ready by then is well, well its going to have some nice escorts to go with it!

Yes, but that was four years ago, in 2007. There appears to have been no interest in 515 and 517, which were decommissioned at Ningde late 2010.

Strictly speaking, 509 (1002) and 510 (1003) were not the first, but Hulls 10 and 9 respectively.

515 was Hull 2, 517 Hull 3, while Hull 1 is 516, which was converted into a fire support ship.

Yes, I am sure they are taking care of the carrier escort issue.

In the not so distant future, 2 Destroyer Flotilla at Zhanjiang and 9 Destroyer Flotilla at Yulin will each have four Type 052C (well, two in 9 Flotilla are actually 052B) and four Type 054A, providing ready-made escort groups fort wo carrier groups.
