Why??? The radar and the optical sensors aren't even aiming up. The guns are shooting blindly.

Traversal tests for the gun and its associated mechanical function (ammo drum, reloading) doesn't necessarily require the sensors to track anything, so the sensors don't have to move.

On the other hand I believe Pakistan Navy has used Chinese CIWS offensively...against terrorists attacking their base.

M163 VADS have been used in ground combat (taking out fortified positions ) by Israel during Ops Galilee and by US during Desert Shield/Storm
