Sumdud asked the same thing back in the old forum...Ya' gotta wonder:confused: That Navy the Japanese have is second only in size to the USN..Self Defense? Of Japan? And what else? Honestly I do not think that the Japanese have any desie to gain any disputed islands. Perhaps they are only looking to defend themselves against any "foreign" incursion. Oh yea ..they are defiently in a "penis contest" with S. Korea.

There is no such thing as Self defence from Japan.:D

China should study Varyag, and make it operation. Because they would learn a lot of experience in the process, they would also gain a lot of valueable data. If Varyag become operation, China, from the first time could train sailors from real carrier. Varyag would also give China good idea about the advantages and weakness of carriers.

These will be very important, because when China is building its new Carriers. They would have lot more to base on, and they will need less time to get the New Carrier commission. It takes a lot of time to build a carrier, but it will take even more time to train the crewmen.

Disputed islands is more than important than meets the eye. What may seem like stupid rocks also means vast undersea resources. We are talking of fishing grounds, we are talking of oil and natural gas resources, we aer talking of trade routes---all the things necessary for a country like Japan to survive, considering her predations on fishing grounds and resources of South Pacific islands and nations. Taiwan and South Korea also does a lot of fishing, and the three of them will probably fish the entire Pacific Ocean to extinction. So what's left they will probably and ultimately resort to military means to obtain.

What relevance is there to any navy build up in East Asia is that because of underwater resources, future navies are gonig to be viewed more like a water based army, meant to secure water territory. There is also going to be a lot of penis posturing and so on. China will definitely try to protect its own corner, hence it may need to force a statement, hence a carrier.

Yes, seems that thigs are getting bit hot here....Thougth Im not propaply the best person to come and tell that lets keep some other forums struggels out of other forums, expecially to those members that are from Key forum....But never practice what i do, but what i preach:cool: :cool: :rolleyes:

SO Kyli, Crobato and Fumanchu, lets keep our feelings of the streets, shall we and Darth Sidious, dont get agitated....

And I think such a statement would be counter-productive, as it would be provocative and induce others to build their own.

I think the cost of refurbishing Varyag/building one from scratch when coupled with the maintainance costs could be better spent elsewhere for the immediate future. Perhaps an LPH/LPHs or more escorts.

However Swimmer is right, so perhaps we should really only be posting pictures and commenting upon them.

Don't worry. I am done:D . And people anticipate in discussion are mature, so they will not let it out of hand.

BTW I doubt China needs LPH, it don't make any sense for the China to acquire.

I have to agree with everything stated so far about why an aircraft carrier DOES NOT benefit China. The PLAN should focus on developing first rate destroyers/frigates, subs, and start working on LPH/LPDs, at least these can be used for humanitarian missions and peacekeeping other than contributing in a Taiwan scenario. Probably some faction of the PLAN fancies an aircraft carrier for vanity which is why the Varyag is in Dalian. Hopefully more practical policies will prevail, anything beyond using the Varyag for R&D I think would be resources wasted.

There is no challenger at all to the Japanese MSDF, not South Korea, there was barely one when the Soviets were around. Japan does need that force for independent self-defence though as it has to maintain sea lanes open as a trading island nation with few natural resources. PLAN should learn from the JMSDF force structure!

By the way I have never noticed swimmerXC's picture before, nice kitty!
