Re: Latest Varyag Pics

I'm pretty sure it is the Kuznetsov, due to the phased array rader system on the island. I dont think Varyag was handed over with it installed.

EDIT:
Just found the solid proof. On the rearest part of the ship is the Flag Insigna of the Russian Northern Fleet...how could I be so stupid...

its a picture of varyag when she is in ukraine, right after the ussr collapsed. the crane might have been used to remove varyags original engine.

It cannot be. As the flag insigna of the Northern Fleet is on the rear of the ship, it have to be taken after the ship was commisoned...oh, and I dont think Varyag did get its phased array radar installed before she was given up.

So it have to the Kuznetsov, MiGleader.

Re: Latest Varyag Pics

I have to agree with Gauntlet on this one, I think this is a picture of Kuznetsov at its homeport (Murmansk i think). I don't even think that the Varyag was ever supposed to be fitted with the skywatch system anyway as the russians could not overcome the teething problems they experienced with this system.

Actually that is the russian naval ensign it was first used in imperial times, peter the great introduced it, and after the fall of the USSR it was reintroduced as the flag of the new russian navy.

I'm wondering what kind of weapons would Varyag be equipped withif commissioned by PLAN? Would they be typical chinese weapons or russian weapons?:china:

About that pic gauntlet posted and this also aplyes to other cases as well. First of all the ship is Admiral Flota Sovetsgejo Sojuz Kuznetsov, there is no questioning about it. The Phassed radar system is unmistakeble reconition feature so next time check the superstructure carefully before posting anything stating that the ship would be Varyag (i'm not acusing anyone...just suggesting that you all post little more carefully). In this particullary pic has an another feature which is clear indication of "non-varyag": The landscape. It coth my eyes even before the pahssed arrays...It's lapland...well the russian part of it...a climate type called tundra (what on earht have you done in your geologic classes???) and this particular type of tundra is found only in the most norhtest areas of Eurasia...and the sole carrier around here is the Kuznetsov (if anyone didin't know, Kuznetsov is asiged to Russian Norhtern Fleet).

The landscapes are usually the key if there is no other reconition features...it's pretty easy to tell a difference from climatetypes of Kola penisula, Black sea area, Dalian and other chinese ports and so on...

The pennant on the aft end of the vessel is also a dead give away.

I am anxious to see more recent pictures of the Varyag and find out what is going on with her now. It's been two months since this thread was started and I am sure some work continues.

These pics are taken from the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai. Is that just a civilian tanker of some sort? is it even a ship:confused:
