well, with somewhat proficient, you need to know the basics of carrier operation, and be able to effectively use it to a good degree. even a proficient navy, like the u.s, cant avoid accidents. they are a ntural part of carreir operation, and i wouldnt be surprised if china orders a few spare aircraft. now for the crew...the best men from the advanced destroyers will need to be trained. two years at most.

Since the PLAN has no one with such experience, the first skipper will have to learn as he goes in that area. This is why proficiency will take a number of years.

True enough...but the greater level of proficiency and experience, normally, the less the number of accidents.

I still believe they will get a CO who has deep draft experience of some sort. They will not fail to learn from the US long experience in this area.

sea dog, if you stand in fron of the white house and curse oat george bush, no one will do anything. yeah right. youll get arrested, hassled, then realeased to be hassled by the cia at home, and then you might find that you lost your job and your house burnt down...trust me, its happend to people before.

I would bet that this is the case. Advisors, former sailors paid to come help train and augment the PLAN personnel.

I'm not sure how well they will mate with the older Varyag or indigenous Chinese systems. They will try for sure...but I am not so sure that there will be much value there.

Good point...but the Russians already have a system that is exactly fitted for the Varyag since it is what they use on the Kuznetsov.

My guess is that the PLAN will start with that system and go from there...probably, if they feel it needs to be improved upon, developing their own system at some future date.

Really? Could you name someone this has happened to or post a story? I'm serious.

I know that generally in the US as long as you keep the protest peaceful and do not block public access(keep moving) you can picket or protest anything you want.

Everyday on Tv you see various different people lambasting the Prestdent. I don't think all these people had their houses burned down, lost their jobs or were hasseled by the CIA. Because if they wee they would immediatley be on the news..i.e. CNN, FOX, MSNBC, CBS, 20 20, 60 minutes etc...Why? Because those type of stories are worth a lot of money to the person involved and the networks.
