PLAN Carrier Strike Group and Airwing

Re: PLAN LHD/LPH/LHA discussion

I would suggest to wait and see we don't want to look foolish if its a large cargo ship or something else.

Yeah, but we're just guessing for fun, lets see who's going to get it right and what not.;)

I noticed something, why is the ship painted in PLAAN grey when it's not completed (where at least all the modules are put together)? The bow section hasn't even came in yet.

Re: PLAN LHD/LPH/LHA discussion

I agree with BD Popeye, the modules look like they are some sort of superstructure for large cargo ships. Probably for the partially completed cargo ship hull that's located right in front of them.

I have noticed some asymmetricality and a waterline. The left part is composed by straight lines but on the right there are some curves.

engineeringly speaking, if there is to be an island on this ship, then the weight distribution would make sense to make it asymmetric. but who knows... im no expert in ship building

Another possiblility for these pictures is that this is a cross sectional major structural support, with the hanger deck being the cutout through it, and the flat top above being the flight deck.

I believe the cutout is too small for a hanger deck, its far too short and narrow to house a fix winged aircraft. unless its a tailless UAV like the X47B lol

Re: Aircraft Carriers II

In terms of the ship design itself, the 26DDH will be 3,000 tons smaller than the preceding Kaga-class, but they will have a larger air-wing. This will be accomplished by eliminating provisions for troop transport, or other cargo transport beyond what is required for the stated missions of the ship.

Well , I told you that those troop facilities take up space ;) .

Nevertheless , this is very interesting development , unlike 22DDH 26DDH looks like true aircraft carrier and I don't think China would allow that . My prediction - if Japans starts construction of these ships China would attempt to trigger sell-off of Japanese bonds or something similar . We shall see ...

It is said to be:

CSSC built a mock-up module of what could be a candidate in the coming Type 002 CATOBAR aricraft carrier RFP. This competition between CSSC and CSIC might come soon and will be very hard...

Apparently the 001 would be a medium sized carrier and the 002 would be large sized. both said to be conventional powered.

Some one measured it to be about 51 metres across, maybe a section near the front.

Also the trough running along the right side is rumoured to be the catapult. But strage that there is only one and it doesn't look like the side angled one. Maybe they will have both cat and ski-jump?

The hangar looks pretty narrow though and seems more suitable for helicopters.

Re: PLAN LHD/LPH/LHA discussion

If the beam of that thing really is 50 meters, it seems way too big to be for a wasp sized LHA, but its a bit small for a carrier (adding a flight deck on top may substantially increase its size).

However the elevator seems to be much too big for what we'd expect on a carrier as well, and we still don't know if this module is connected to te LHA at all (to muddle the waters even more, some people are saying the LHA is actually a "mock up" of a carrier the PLAN are contracting, which makes no sense but stranger things have happened)
