China unlike the US has no experience of building CV,therefore, you are right they decided to build a mock up,according to kanwa, several Ukrainian naval engineer were in shanghai ship yard to assist the construction.

Another BS news specially come from Kanwa the least trusted source for Chinese military information. I don't believe there will be any Ukrainian engineer. They were there when Dalian refurbished the ex Varyag. But by noe the Chinese know the Liaoning inside out. Come one all of those

No, SinoSoldier, your first photograph, from a few days ago, shows a large merchantman ( tanker ? ) in the dock. So no aircraft carrier is building there.

Uh...what guessing game?

We have been discussing the 1st picture in detail for some time so there's really nothing new there.

And the 2nd picture?

That shows an old picture of the Liaoning before it was ever completed...so probably two years old, with some kind of vessel (probably a tanker or something) building next to it.

I don't understand the point.

Rapid August 26, 2013: Syrian Update | Russian 5th and 6th Gen Fighter Aircraft

The Obama administration appears to both think the Syrian government did use chemical weapons against civilians, and prepare a strike in response. This would possibly but not necessarily be done with UN backing, while the British Royal Navy is moving ships in preparation of possible missile launches. It’s hard for UN inspectors to do their job when snipers shoot at them. One question among several pressing matters: what was used external link? WSJ external link | NYT external link | WaPo external link | Christian Science Monitor external link | UK Telegraph external link.

Meggitt-USA, Inc. settled external link alleged ITAR allegations external link with the US State Department for a $25M civil penalty.

India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) announced external link [PDF] the successful test launch of a Nirbhay long-range cruise missile, though deviations from its intended trajectory were observed along its flight. This had already been the case external link during the 1st test flight back in March.

Baba Kalyani external link, chairman of Bharat Forge, thinks India’s defence procurement policy (DPP) lack of clarity defeats its purpose external link:

“The new DPP is good to the extent that it encourages (involvement of) private sector industry in defence manufacturing, but nobody in the South Block in New Delhi knows how to implement it. This generates tremendous hesitation, piecemeal and turf-led approach as everybody is after safeguarding their own turf. As a result, I would be very surprised if anything comes out of the new policy.”

So, is China building a 2nd aircraft carrier, or a big external link Landing Helicopter Assault (LHA) ship? Chinese forums and blogs are buzzing external link about a picture external link of what could be a ski jump module in the making, in a hangar behind the Liaoning.

Russia’s 6th-gen fighter aircraft will likely be unmanned external link.

The video below explains the unique attributes of the Sukhoi T-50 – Russia’s 5th-gen fighter jet prototype – whose maneuverability will be showcased external link at the MAKS-2013 air show starting tomorrow near Moscow:

Refitting and building a ship from scratch puts different operational strains on project management. Knowing the generally cautious approach to project management in China, I wouldn't be surprised if they built a mock-up just in case.

When China built their first destroyer, do they do a mock up? And Carrier to China is not really that new, China had been studying carrier for decades, and although Liaoning is a refitted carrier, but if one follow the Liaoning history, one would know that when China recieve that ship it was basically just an empty shell, and so when China refit it, it was basically doing everything almost from scratch. I think China would already have enough experiences with it.

As to suggestion that Ukrainian naval engineer are in Shanghai shipyard to help with the construction, then it would tell you more that mockup is impossible. Why the hell would China require help from other nation's engineer to build a mock up? Seriously, a little common sense here.

I'm simply pointing out that it wouldn't be an unusual move. I'm not discounting how extensive the refit of the Varyag into the Liaoning is, but a refit is still very different from hull construction. If Ukranian engineers are involved in the construction process, I would find the mockup scenario far less likely. I don't subscribe to that particular theory though.

I would take that report with a pinch of salt (infact I would take it with a large spoonful of salt).

1st reason, it is from Kanwa and we all know how inaccurate their report was, second reason, there are absolutely no references, no nothing to back that report out, 3rd from what I understand China bought the zubr from Ukraine. From that report... you mean, that 35000ton LHD can carry a Zubr? Really? and that is... it can carry the monster Zubr and still 20 helicopters.

Unless China is buying smaller hover crafts from Ukraine... which again make no sense since China could build their own hovercrafts.
