PLAN Anti-Piracy Deployments

Has an 053H3 FFG been on a deployment this far away before?

It will be interesting to see how they do, though I expect they will do just fine.

The Harbin 112 could stand an FL-3000N missile system in upgrade though IMHO.

112 and 113 only just had their major upgrades, if they ever wanted to put FL3000s on them, they would have done so when they ships were in for the shop. In balance. I think ships will retire with what they are sporting.

This really is a bit of a second rate force that the PLAN is sending this time. I would have expected at least an 054A or even 054 to tag along, not a JiangWei.

In terms of mission specs, even a JiangWei is more than adequate to scare off some pirates in skiffs, but then the patrol missions were always more of a training and fly the flag mission, so the PLAN tended to send their best ships to help give the crews operational experience and also to show off their newest toys.

It would be very interesting to Know what the thinking for selecting this group of ships really was, as there are just too many possible reasons to list.

The answer would probably be no. Vanuatu and New Zealand appear to be the farthest for 053H3.

Has 112 gone out for duty since refit? Maybe this is her shakedown mission post refit. As for second rate force, where else would second rate force be best deployed? And even the second rate force should get some experience to help create an overall force with depth.

It seems 887 gets sent out a lot, does she field multiple crews? Otherwise, this particular crew sure spends a lot of time out at sea.

The 14th floatilla has left for their mission in the Gulf of Aden. The first time that a Type 053H3 Jiangwei has participated in a anti-piracy mission.

Almost certainly. You don't send ships out on real operational development after a major refit without first testing her out thoroughly beforehand, especially such a long and high profile one like this. It would be a long way back if they discovers something was amiss, and a huge international embarrassment if the ship broke down far from home.

I think the western Pacific would have been where 112 and 113 were sent on their shake down cruises, maybe the Japanese will have pictures.

Not a criticism, just an observation.

A Type 053H3 Pennant 528 and Type 052 112 is off for piracy mission along with a replenishment tanker

Recently a Dutch Submarine was conducting piracy missions and actually there was lots of successful story's of how it communicated with surface vessels and directed them successfully to conflict areas

Maybe China can look into sending a submarine, however Dutch were requested by NATO and this would be a very high rated mission

I think you may have misunderstood me, I said specifically "shakedown mission", not "shakedown cruise". What I mean by that is after the refit, is this 112's first full fledged mission?
