The 11th Chinese naval escort taskforce under the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) formed by “Qingdao” warship, “Yantai” warship and “Weishan Lake” supply ship arrived at the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast as scheduled on the morning of March 15, 2012, local time, and successfully joined forces with the 10th Chinese naval escort taskforce which has just accomplished the 430th escort mission.
The 10th and 11th naval escort taskforces joined up with each other in the eastern waters off the Gulf of Aden at around 05:00. Under the command of the 10th naval escort taskforce, the two taskforces began to conduct the first joint escort mission. Sailing in two columns, the two taskforces escorted seven merchant ships from China, India and Malta to the western waters off the Gulf of Aden.
According to the schedule, the two naval escort taskforces will hold a ceremony on “Haikou” warship to handover the escort mission on the morning of March 17, 2012. The 11th naval escort taskforce will then officially take over the escort mission.
