Re: Somali pirates and Chinese navy

My friend, China has been sending a third frigate, Chowhu (054A 568) from South Sea Fleet to go to Somali with the three ships from East Sea Fleet. So, there are four ships in the 4th Flotilla.
Thank you, noted and corrected on the site:

Let me know what you think.

Look great, very informative. Thank you for putting it together, I didn't even know the third flotilla did such a short stint compared to the other flotillas.

Can you believe this? Some danish special Ops got onto a ship and found NO pirates what-so-ever and this became head-line news. And also check out the title of the article. Boy, talking about misleading... This is what I call "a blind cat catching a dead mouse"...

I have a general question. Why don't nations set up some kind of ambush op? What I mean is some Special Ops can stay and hide in some ships all the way through the Gulf of Aden. IF the ship got hit by pirates, these soldiers would come out with guns blazing. And they should do this a couple time and picking ships only randomly. This might make the pirates think twice of hitting ships because they would have no clue which ship might have an ambush waiting for them.

Too many ships?

Too many pirates?

Some pirates have moved into areas not normally patrolled beyond the Gulf of Aden. It would be just easier to arm the crew but they haven't because for one thing it's not like these ships are loaded with people that can stand watch 24/7. Once pirates get on board anyone held at gunpoint complicates the situation many times over. Soldiers or not... what happens when the pirates make demands while holding hostages?

It's because insurance companies won't cover it anymore once you have arms on board. Oh yeah, the insurance companies are loving it because they could charge more on premiums now without actually paying out too much.

I thought I would use the opportunity to congratulate the Russians in their recent rescue of the crew from one of their hijacked ships.
Perhaps the Russians have shown us the way to go. A safe room stocked with provisions, communication gear and locked from the insideand then storm the ship with specialist troops.

I dont know whether there is any truth to the story how they released the pirates a few hundred kilometers from shore with no provisions or navagational gear. Its believed the pirates never made it to shore.

THeres this rumour going around that the pirates were actually executed by the Russians

If so is that a" bit over the top"?
