With the NEWS

Can you then maintain an intermediate effort for say a week? Is that too exercised?

I don't know, really. I just gave interpolated ballpark figures based on statistics of previous examples. If one pressed me for an answer, I would personally *guess* that 2 sorties a day per plane should be perfectly doable for a full week. Perhaps at times closer to 2.5 sorties. But anyone can make their own guess.

Well, according to those parking slot markers you wouldn't miss very much parking space compared to CATOBAR. Only about 30 meters of very bow area is off zone. Obviously there is the gradually steepening 12 procent hill in the end where you wouldn't like to park anything due to stress. Of course USN carriers have lot more parking slots due to different parking system.

EDIT: And ordnance lift markings are missing. I would like to know if this picture is new or old to determine if they painted those later or welded up as Popeye suggested.

Two days on station and one day replenishment means four to five days with sorties a week. And don't forget aircraft for CAP, as tanker, as escorts, reconnessance, ...

And I guess, the crew isn't able to work arround the clock - a carrier-day has 12 to 16 hours ... at least for alpha strikes.

And when there is an accident, the carrier has a break for several hours - with troops on land needing the air support. You can not go to war with only one carrier.

You miss a LOT of space. I see only two spots there, and if they angled them they could get four in there. Compare that with a US CATOBAR bow during single position bow launch where they normally have nine forward of the launch position..

The sea trials has ended today so the Liaoning is at sea for just 6 days. However i'm not sure if the sea trials started on 15 september. I will change it if there is any new information.

They are methodically moving forward. Still have adverse weather trials, and this if for the carrier and the aircraft, nt the air wing. Each pilot will have to qualify in all of this too.

I expect them to start training more pilots soon.

We should see four to six aircraft aboard soon, instead of three. Timing will depend somewhat on the fall cruise they have talked about.

You miss a LOT of space. I see only two spots there, and if they angled them they could get four in there. Compare that with a US CATOBAR bow during single position bow launch where they normally have nine forward of the launch position..

I see 7 marked parking spots on the foredeck of the Liaoning, each with a ring of tie down hooks around it.

2 are on each take off lane marker, one between the take off lane markers, and one each in front of jet blast deflectors.

If one take off lane is in use, then 3 spots can still available.

But the arrangement of tie downs would seem to preclude parking configuration other than on and oriented with the parking markings. So it can't line aircraft up on foredeck edge like the US CV/CVN could. Also, with CATOBAR, even a failed launch is still guaranteed to move the doomed plane down the catapult track and prevent it from plowing into any aircraft parked on the foredeck. With a STOBAR launch, nothing keeps the doomed plane from plowing straight into parked aircraft if asymmetrical engine failure or other loss of yaw authority occur onboard the doomed aircraft. So parking on the foredeck during launch operation is far more dangerous.

You should have also quoted this point:"Of course USN carriers have lot more parking slots due to different parking system." I was merely pointing out that the ramp itself won't take out so many parking spaces as it is mentioned to take. That Russian originated system isn't so flexible as USN system.
