Is this the hangar of 001A? (posted at cjbdy and said it was assembled today)

leeone from CJDBY did some drawing on the original pic posted by fzgfzy for those who got confused because of the censored parts.

fzgfzy promised more HD pics will be released once the "skin" of 001A is added. The reason for the censor is because he can't post any clear pics regarding internal structure of 001A.

Just who is this fzgfzy person? I'd like to have him posting here at SDF. ..I really would...someone please invite him...who knows he may be here right now! Thanks.

fzgfzy is one of the moderator on CJDBY Navy forum. He is the one with some inside information regarding chinese navy ship building like the other insider pop3.

His long article on 001A was published by Modern ships military magazine on it's September edition. I don't think he speaks or writes English though....And even if he does I don't think he will post here in SDF. ;)

Well, this first one looks like someone superimposed a module onto the existing carrier. It does not fit.

The hanger will extend all the way across to each side of the vessel. This shows one side with a large amount of structure between the hanger and that side (to the left), and the other side not extending all the way across the vessel at all (the left).

This second picture is more interesting and seems to show a module being lowered in the yard.

Is that a part of the hanger?

Cannot tell. It could be, but there is not enough context to say so, and the superimposed picture does not look correct at all.

That second picture, if it is being lowered onto a hull, still shows a significant amount of structure between the end of the hanger and the side of the vessel. On the Liaoning, and on most carriers, the hanger extends all the way across the vessel at that level except for the wall of the hull itself.

One thing is for sure. If this is part of that hanger buildup, the next set of pictures of the vessel in full will show it. I will wait for that picture to say for sure.

I think the first pic was heavily photoshoped because he didn't want to reveal the thickness and size of the structure. fzgfzy's word was that the picture is just to give chinese military enthusiasts a general idea of the progress 001A and not get himself into trouble at the same time. The second pic was not censored because is from afar. :)

The module is actually behind the crane. The superimposed contour is drawn on top of the crane. Hence, your mind can't register.

Nice. Using my own experience in PLA watching, from the consistent rumours we've gotten over the last few years to now, to the steady stream of construction pictures since early this year, to the latest blurred pictures of the hangar module, I'm willing to call it and say this thing is definitely a carrier. Still, that's me, and I think I have a slightly lower threshold for willing to accept blurry pictures as proof (one only has to remember J-20's unveiling).

I expect clear pictures within a week or so at the latest, which should hopefully convince others. But there will also be some who are unconvinced until we see a flight deck and an island to match, which is fine.

With the assembly of the first hangar module, in coming weeks I expect we will see the other hangar modules to be assembled one by one, and then I expect the side sponsons which Samuraiblue has been so eagerly waiting for to start to be installed along with initial work on the flight deck to begin. Then assembly of the details like adding an island, elevators, getting the flight deck fleshed out, and adding a ski jump should occur, at which point the ship should be ready for launch.
