But it's like what Jeff Head said it is China's first time building a complete aircraft carrier so it is generally going to be expected that it'll take a bit longer than say 002 and while I'm definitely not an expert in shipbuilding I would generally assume that building a destroyer and building an aircraft carrier will be different so the workers/builders will have somewhat of a learning curb.

Well, most of the problems would happen in the design phase. China has a proven military shipbuilding capacities. For welders and welding engineers it doesn't matter if they are in charge of welding steel modules for an aircraft carrier or a destroyer etc..

Actually...it does matter.

The design of differing hull forms, particularly when going to a military grade, large aircraft carrier, do require differing techniques to address them over a DDG.

While most of the experience is applicable, there are nuances and differences that they will have to pick up on.

Since this would be the first vessel of this type to be fabricated, they will have to learn those either by talking to and getting guidance from others who have done it, through some form of intelligence gathering, or, most likely through the school of hard knocks.

But I am confidant that they will be perfectly capable of doing so. But to the original poster's point, this type of thing (along with numerous other considerations) will add time to the initial carrier build.

I've driven by Rosyth for 5 years watching the QE carrier coming together block by block and to be honest this look really different

How come it has those wide open spaces in the hull section like a cargo storage department?

Right from the first picture I said this was a carrier and I believe it still is but is China doing something different here? After all if this can only be a carrier in this dry dock but why the strange design ?

You can be sure their way of building their aircraft carrier is different from the US way or the, very different, British way. But some things should be recognizable if this is the Chinese CV such as the smoke uptakes and engine air down takes, unless the engines are high placed gas turbines - which doesn't quite rhyme with the notion that this should be a slightly increased version of Liaoning.

I think we should not read into that picture too much to prove or disaprove anything. It is apperently PSed, especially the supposedly big openning, we can see the red/orange areas in the mid-section are probably copied from the bow section where there are red/orange support structures.

The large open/vacant areas certainly, IMHO, tends to lean towards a commercial ship of some type.

More time needed...because time will tell.

BTW, Deino, great to have you back from vacation!
