I think tastes only comes into play past a certain price mark. If these rooms were say $100 a night few if any would care about taste.
Actually hard taunt leather couches are not all that comfortable for lazy bones like me
Chinese interior designs have always been crap.
I've seen some pretty well designed apartments in Beijing, but generally speaking the wealthy in China have very garish and overladen tastes...they should take a cue from HK and Japan and be more minimalist.
No one is born with good taste, you need a while to sample everything first (probably overindulge, for those with newfound wealth), before developing your own nuances.

You want to see the most lavish accomoadations you can find aboard any aircraft carrier in the world?
Well, look at these:
These are the kind of accomodations...if you can afford it...that you can get on the former Soviet carrier Kiev, which has been turned into a theme park with its own five-star hotel aboard. Those are the "Presidential" suites.
...and, while on deck, treat yourself to a hot bowl of "beef noodle soup (niu rou mian)," ...oh man, that would taste very good (热碗牛肉面口味很好) while you explore the Kiev.
I'll kick the designer's ass if these are on the Liaoning. This is a hotel, not a combat ship!
