Sorry guys but both projects – the J-12A and the J-12B – depicted here are pure fiction !
Both drawings are from a very old book and show concepts of the J-9 delta-winged fighter and the Q-6 Swing-wing fighter bomber as they were believed to look like drawn by the sparse information or rumours available in the West. As Shenyang was the most well known Chinese Aircraft design and manufacturing company in the West it was quite normal to believe that Shenyang is responsible for both concepts …. Finally it was Chengdu for The J-9 and Nanchang for the Q-6 and both aircraft failed in the end because of technical issues (esp. the powerplant !)
The real J-12 was a lightweight fighter from Nanchang which was in competition with another concept called J-11 (not the Su-27 copy !) from Shenyang.
