Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration will not abandon long-standing US support for Taiwan in negotiations with China to reach a trade agreement.

“If what people are worried about is we’re going to get some trade deal where we’re going to get favorable treatment on trade in exchange for walking away from Taiwan — no one is contemplating that,” Rubio told reporters on his plane Saturday en route from Israel to join President Donald Trump in Doha on their way to a regional meeting in Asia.

the Trump administration to officially declare that it “opposes” independence, a concession that would amount to a major diplomatic win for Beijing.

Trump was less definitive when asked earlier about US policy toward Taiwan on Air Force One.

“I don’t want to talk about that now. I don’t want to create any complexity. The trip is already complex enough,” Trump said.

This may or may not be where Little Rubio finally sticks his neck out and gets damaged by Trump for it. He has been bizarrely quiet over the past 10 months, relative to Pissant and Nutlik. Nutlik seemed to have led on China negotiations first, became defeated, and then Pissant took lead on China. Pissant recently appeared defeated and removed from China lead. Now it appears Little Rubio is taking the lead role on China. Let's see how this goes, but I expect nothing less than total defeat and humiliation of the tiny Cuban.

I wouldn't be so sure. Trump has shown again and again that when push comes to shove he basically follows the neo-cons. Whether the whole Ukraine saga where he pretty much flipflopped in public just to support Ukraine with more weapons and more sanctions on Russia. Then his Iran policy and now attacking Venezuela.

Trump talks about peace but he is much more aggressive than Biden and carries his foreign policy with extreme arrogance and expectation that other great powers will bow down to him.

His China policy is the same. He will eventually be a much bigger supporter of Taiwan just to attack China so that he can force China to back down, but ofcourse China will not back down, so he will keep escalating further.
