PLA Strategy in a Taiwan Contingency

I don't understand the purpose of this exercise. It's not realistic. It almost sounds like they based this entirely off of having watched Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers.

Oh boy. Don't be too optimistic about everything in a war. Everything are not reliable in a war. Many things will change apart from your origin plan, which could lead to your total lose.

In best cases, you can win the war with typing keyboard then enemy just surrenders. But in worst cases, the enemy is so consistent & strong, and your friend forces (i.e. Air Support) can't come in time, then you can only depend on yourselves. That's why this exercise was organized, filmed & released to us. Basically, CCTV is saying, we're ready & training for the worst cases.

To train umphibious units, you can't say "Oh, air support will deal with all of our problems, so our wars are easy. It's not necessary to training so hard, so tough." What you could do is to assume the worst case, only that can make your soldiers perform best when things are not happen as plan after war really happens.

Remember those who said Russia will take Ukraine in 1h22min? ;)

The video and exercise itself is not really that complex or of a large scale either, and while it served some useful training in basic procedures it obviously wasn't done with much supporting elements (either on the landing side or the defenders).

If anything it seemed somewhat scripted and dramatized for the sake of CCTV, and the exercise was just an excuse to train in some basic skills and tactics.

I wouldn't read much into it.
