I don't understand the purpose of this exercise. It's not realistic. It almost sounds like they based this entirely off of having watched Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers.

It has some use in providing a complex "if the enemy manages to survive your fires" situation.

Train for when things go wrong, and all that.

Oh boy. Don't be too optimistic about everything in a war. Everything are not reliable in a war. Many things will change apart from your origin plan, which could lead to your total lose.

In best cases, you can win the war with typing keyboard then enemy just surrenders. But in worst cases, the enemy is so consistent & strong, and your friend forces (i.e. Air Support) can't come in time, then you can only depend on yourselves. That's why this exercise was organized, filmed & released to us. Basically, CCTV is saying, we're ready & training for the worst cases.

To train umphibious units, you can't say "Oh, air support will deal with all of our problems, so our wars are easy. It's not necessary to training so hard, so tough." What you could do is to assume the worst case, only that can make your soldiers perform best when things are not happen as plan after war really happens.

Remember those who said Russia will take Ukraine in 1h22min? ;)

The video and exercise itself is not really that complex or of a large scale either, and while it served some useful training in basic procedures it obviously wasn't done with much supporting elements (either on the landing side or the defenders).

If anything it seemed somewhat scripted and dramatized for the sake of CCTV, and the exercise was just an excuse to train in some basic skills and tactics.

I wouldn't read much into it.

Kuma Academy boss is now wanted by Chongqing police for secessionist activities.

It feels like in the last few weeks some sort of decision has been made at the top and ponderous state machinery has sprung into action. On top of my head in recent days there's been two waves of wated notice on Taiwan cognitive warfare personnel and recent official recognition of Taiwan Retrocession Day. The leadership must be talking to the US side about this too judging from all that noise coming out of the US at the same time moving the Overton window towards acceptance of Peaceful Reunification.

I don't understand the purpose of this exercise. It's not realistic. It almost sounds like they based this entirely off of having watched Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers.

It’s both a test of a worst case scenario landing against heavy, determined and effective beach defences, as well as a psychological training tool for the troops to both squash any green shoots of complacency to motivate them to train harder and come up with more clever and innovative strategies to avoid having to pay such a steep blood price for real, and also to mentally prepare them for the likelihood of suffering heavy losses in combat, so they won’t be too surprised or shocked if that does happen.

Today's Beijing trip by Taiwanese internet celebrity “Guanzhang” remained highly entertaining, garnering numerous positive reviews on YouTube. However, an unpleasant incident occurred toward the end when a dissident wearing sunglasses and a fake beard infiltrated the fan crowd to take a photo with Guanzhang. During the photo session, the individual made a mocking gesture toward the camera and delivered pro-independence remarks into the microphone before quickly leaving the scene.

But they told me dissidents were being suppressed into silence in China *eyeroll*

(This is actually a good occurrence because it dispels stereotypes about political speech limits in China).
