PLA Strategy in a Taiwan Contingency

The People's Liberation Army's simulated strikes on natural gas tanks have caused Taiwanese to worry about energy issues

If the CCP blockades Taiwan, how long can Taiwan's energy supply last? Scholars have given an answer.
LNG ships were unable to enter the port as scheduled due to military exercises. In the future, if the PLA imposes a blockade on Taiwan, how long can Taiwan's energy supply last?
Wu Da-ren, a professor in the Department of Economics at National Central University, stated that Taiwan's natural gas reserves last about seven days in the summer and up to 14 days on regular days. If a blockade by mainland China lasts longer than the storage period, Taiwan faces the risk of running out of gas. If the blockade extends beyond a month, the situation would become extremely serious. Therefore, if natural gas replaces coal without a simultaneous increase in transportation and storage capacity, it will not contribute to maintaining a safe reserve level.
Many people on the island naively believed that once a war broke out, "partners in the democratic and free world" would "rush tens thousands of ships to Taiwan" to deliver supplies, and the PLA would be unable to stop these many civilian ships. But in this exercise, the PLA shows that it would attack energy facilities and infrastructure, and a LNG ships did not dare to dock because of the exercise. After the self-deception was exposed, panic ensued.

Ironically, after the DPP came to power in 2016, it announced that it would shut down all nuclear power plants in Taiwan by 2025 and ban nuclear energy, due to the Fukushima nuclear accident. It also banned wind power, solar panels, and thermal power generation facilities produced in mainland China, resulting in the slow development of green electricity in Taiwan (accounting for less than 10%) and extreme reliance on thermal power generation (50% natural gas, 30% coal). Taiwan's power generation is decreasing instead of increasing, electricity bills are getting higher and higher, and power outages are frequent in summer.

Like someone said, chalk it up to their stupidity. They also called the European Union a "country", as well as the McDonald Islands... which are uninhabited.

Right, good find.

I don't see how it has anything to do with TRA or any other military strategy. Most of those listed on this very screen shot are over seas territories and dependencies, that just happen to have a different jurisdiction in a customs or commercial sense. They basically have nothing to do with sovereignty or administration.

Even stranger are cases like Svalbard and Jan Mayen, which are not actually in any sense the same territory, whether geographically, administratively, in terms of customs, or anything else relevant to economics. It is only considered together by NGOs for statistical purposes since both are on the margins of the Greenland Sea. It's almost like they took it out of a geography text book, and just plopped it down with something can can be computed with a middle school math equation.

At 7:00 PM on April 1, the Shandong aircraft carrier strike group – comprising the Type 055 destroyer Yanan, Type 052D destroyer Zhanjiang, Type 054A frigate Yuncheng, and Type 901 comprehensive supply ship Chaganhu – was positioned 360 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island.

By 7:00 PM on April 2, the strike group had shifted to a position approximately 330 kilometers south of Yonaguni Island.

On April 3, the Shandong carrier group returned to the South China Sea.

Between April 1 and 2, the Shandong carrier conducted a total of 70 aircraft sorties, including 40 carrier-based fighter jet launches/recoveries and 30 carrier-based helicopter operations.

 Some Taiwanese hope Taiwan restart nuke program, to deter mainland China from Armed Reunification.

You don't need to be afraid of Taiwan restart its nuke program, because the CIA will stop it, just like in the old days. You should be afraid of Taiwan blowing up their nuclear power plant and causing a new Chernobyl-like accident.

one thing strange about all the propgranda taiwan will be save by the world and US because semi conductor industry shield was....all the media both taiwan and western/US seem alway avoid talking about is

china actually can destroy entire taiwan chip industy via missile attack and shootdown every single aircraft dare to escape the island to preven chips talent people being tranfer to the west

before even start doing anything such as blockable .

after decades of western/taiwan propagranda about : world must save taiwan because chip industry

now with chip industry gone , every single chip talent people BBQ alive in many plane crash ....taiwan have nothing legit valueable left to buy protection and saving

any grovernment calling for ww3 again china for a non-chip taiwan will be vote out of office in a heartbeat by their own citizen

maybe this is the deep down truth , the true nightmare about taiwan that they too scare to even think about let alone say anything about it ?
