Do you know the numerical classification of PLAN ships? Especially type 03 series?

Type 032 was once described as type 041 by netizens many years ago, and again now that this new SSK appeared a fanboy designation of type 041 again appeared, but there was no type 04 series submarine in PLAN service.

I don't know why many people love the designation "041" so much. If you are not sure, just described it as type 039X or type 03X or type 039(C?). Actually it is more commonly referred to as type 039C although this is not officially confirmed by PLAN.

Do you realize that there are two distinct classes that come in between the 039-class and the one you just posted (which is, contrary to what you just claimed, is a 039C-class SSK)?

Also, outside looks alone doesn't determine whether a ship/boat class should belong to the same tech tree stem as its predecessors, or being in a separate new tech tree branch.

Fair enough I can relent with calling it a 039C instead, even if that isn't something PLAN themselves have officially named those either.

No, what was meant was that the PLAN needs to develop the capability to track and eliminate US subs even in the middle of the Pacific for definitive sea superiority, the actual points of strategic contention wouldn't be in the middle of the ocean logically speaking.
