It’s a tripwire.
They'll likely expand the US spec ops presence to also serve as a Praetorian guard to intimidate anti-independence forces and to prevent a coup. Not unlikely that some KMT members will be committing suicide with gunshots to the back of the head soon.

They will suffer only from PTSD and some concussion of the brain. Definitely will need emotional support animals for life.
Kinmen is the worst place any US forces could be stationed, this is just pure media posturing.
The residents’ livelihood at this point is 100% dependent on mainland visitors and they were very mad at Tsai Ing Wen for closing the ferry until 2023, well after the entire world put Covid restrictions behind them.
Obviously a biased source, but it was the reality.
On top of this, Kinmen is in gun range let alone rockets (the famous Cold War artillery duels). The moment they step out of their bunkers, they are going to be vaporized. With today’s advanced shells, targeting would be more efficient too.
So should US forces try anything silly, it could quickly look worse than Mogadishu.

After Kinmen, China CG sent a ship to patrol seas around Dongsha islands (Pratas islands). Dongsha islands are under control by Taiwan ROC. CCG 3303 stayed in the area for several days. Will this become another new normal? There is a small contingent of ROC CG on the island but there is no civilian residents.
