Is 90rds in 3 mags 1kg lighter than a 75rds drum or is the rifle itself lighter?An experiment from a long time ago: a modded Type-81 with cheek rest and bipod. Also note the three-magazine holder (90 rounds total). This set up is about 1kg lighter than using a 75-round drum magazine.

No. It's the entire setup of the rifle with 3 mags that is lighter.
