Can shoot from bipod like a Kord, so maybe a credible replacement for gpmg?Next generation machine gun...
Highly doubt that, the double baffle indicates that it is most likely a high caliber round (.50 cal most likely). The problem with almost all extreme lightweight HMG is that their rate of fire is often too low for suppressive effect. Then there is the other issue of ammo, a fully loaded .50 cal ammo case weights almost 10 kgs give or take, and it only provides 50 rounds, way below the 100 of a GPMG belt. Can shoot from bipod like a Kord, so maybe a credible replacement for gpmg?
Some old pictures, should be the same one.
I believe the actual caliber would be 14.5mm, not 12.7mm. Remember this is China, not US or NATO. In any case I agree that this MG could in no way be used as a GPMG.Highly doubt that, the double baffle indicates that it is most likely a high caliber round (.50 cal most likely). And even the lightest of these still weights almost 20kgs, almost 3 times the standard weight of a GPMG. And we still don't know how much the new gun actually weights at this point.
Armies world wide are always going to gravitate towards making ever lighter HMGs, but at this point of time the GPMG still occupies a unique spot that is not going away soon.
China also uses a .50 cal round, only that it is the Russian 12.7x108. And I don't think this gun is chambered for the 14.5.mm as there is no precedent of China developing light weight HMGs of that caliber.I believe the actual caliber would be 14.5mm, not 12.7mm. Actually, yes you're right.China also uses a .50 cal round, only that it is the Russian 12.7x108. And I don't think this gun is chambered for the 14.5.mm as there is no precedent of China developing light weight HMGs of that caliber.
14.5mm is more used as a low end auto cannon than a HMG. It was originally developed for WW2 Antitank rifles even today is sometimes still used in such. Than adapted for use in anti aircraft guns. Even today some BMP /BTR clones use 14.5mm guns as opposed Heavier cannons. Because vs lighter Armored vehicles less it can still be effective even vs modern IFV and APC to the sides or rear it can still be enough.I believe the actual caliber would be 14.5mm, not 12.7mm. It does looks like the CS/LS7, but as far as I can remember that one comes with only 9mm caliber version, whereas the PLA standardized their SMG caliber to 5.8mm...Looks like a submachine gun for Type-15's crew.
