"Special Police unit practicing urban anti-terrorism tactics, etc... "

The red pylons are a replica of Chinese concrete traffic barrier, while the shiny thing is of course a garbage can (I highly doubt its ballistic protection quality, but I guess it is better than nothing)

I think these are the PLA soldiers deployed on the 168 off Africa.

Isn't the one that deployed to Somalia number 169? To me, this one is under training preparing to replace the 169 and 171 off Africa. Something strange to me: First, why these PLA soldiers use type 56/81 (?) instead of type 95? Second, the muzzle of these type 56s look strange. Can some expert gives more information about it?

I believe those Type 56's are the QBZ-56C carbine variant which has been reduced in length by about 110mm and the weight reduced by 1.1kg. The QBZ-56C is used by the People's Liberation Army Marine Corps on surface ships because they are infact (slightly) lighter and shorter than the standard QBZ-95.

Not sure about the first one, but next three is for the PLA Honor guard, airforce, army, and navy. The fifth one is for the special force, the group is currently serving the Gulf of Eden mission with PLAN. Last one is peace mission, 2005. The joint military exercise with Russia.

A Chinese naval task force including destroyer "Guangzhou" and a helicopter will attend the "Peace-09" exercise in the seas off Pakistan. The task force on Monday conducted a training session of the helicopter

The last to photos puzzle me a little. Actually a lot. Why are there so many men launching that helo? Why don't they have better hearing protection? I don't see any. Trust me helos are loud. Very loud.

I gotta say one more thing..Why to the PLA always look so military and uptight? Many of the photos look un-natural. Staged if you will. Those fellows need to lighten up a little.
