One more... allegedly taken on a different day.

And at a different beach. On Donghai Island, not at Nansan anymore. As per Copernicus browser/Sentinel.

Latest flyby photos of Jiangnan and Hudong-Zhonghua.

Looks like the 2nd unit of 2nd batch 055 DDG at Jiangnan should be launched within the next few weeks. Besides, the launch of the new 052DG DDG that is peeking out of the assembly hall should be imminent.

Meanwhile, the smaller drydock which is directly connected to the fitting out basin at Hudong-Zhonghua looks to be nearing completion (if not already completed) as well. Judging from Google Earth satellite imagery, 2x FFG/medium DDG-sized ships or 1x LPD/LHD-sized ship can be built inside that drydock at any one time.

Just a quibble: The photographer should've taken a full-view photo of that larger drydock at Hudong-Zhonghua as well.

From what I could make out on Copernicus' latest satellite imagery of that location, there seems to be one 054-sized ship currently being assembled inside that drydock, alongside a shorter vessel of roughly similar beam and a much larger civilian/commercial vessel (maybe a LNG carrier). No idea whether that ship is a 054AG FFG or a 054-mod cutter, though.

from the Modern Weaponry magazine, including a very rare live-fire photo. Posting them here because of the possible naval application, e.g. for close-in defense against anti-ship missiles (second image, artist's impression).

I certainly believe that such CIWS guns would be very much required onboard certain PLAN warships in the future, especially for Taiwan, SCS and ECS scenarios where small-to-medium-sized enemy UAV and USV swarms possess serious threats against PLAN warships operating around and in the littoral regions of the enemy-controlled/contested territories.

Four Yuan Wang tracking and instrumentation ships have been registered in the South Pacific region, with Yuan Wang 3, Yuan Wang 5 and Yuan Wang 6 en route and Yuan Wang 7 already loitering in the southeastern Pacific.

What's rather unusual about this is that while the Shenzhou 19 crew are due to return to Earth and Shenzhou 20 crew are due to arrive at the Tiangong Space Station soon (both of which are to occur in late-April or early-May 2025), typically only one Yuan Wang ship will be sent for the mission.

This time, all of the non-cargo Yuan Wang ships have been sent out to sea.

I was wondering if anyone has any related knowledge or expertise? Would this metal storm system have any potentially related technologies to an ETC gun system, for example, could this electric base ignition system or even the propellant be adapted to function with an ETC gun or is this something completely different on a fundamental and functional level?

I am not expert but I can always ask AI like Deepseek or CoPilot. The AI machine gave the below answer-

The Metal Storm gun system, while innovative, has some notable disadvantages:
  1. Complexity and Maintenance: The system relies on electronically initiated firing mechanisms and stacked projectiles, which can be complex to maintain and repair compared to traditional firearms.
  2. Limited Practical Use: Despite its high rate of fire, the technology has not seen widespread adoption in military applications. This is partly due to its niche use cases and the challenges of integrating it into existing military systems.
  3. Cost and Logistics: The disposable barrel system, where barrels are pre-loaded and discarded after use, can lead to higher operational costs and logistical challenges.
  4. Overheating and Wear: The rapid firing capability can cause significant heat buildup and wear on the barrels, potentially affecting performance over extended use.
  5. Lack of Versatility: The system's design limits its adaptability for different types of ammunition or firing scenarios, making it less versatile than conventional firearms.
