I’m very dubious about metal storm for naval applications, especially with the move towards hypersonic weapons. The tiny range means even if you intercept you are still going to take significant damage.

But if they can scale that down enough in terms of both size and cost, metal storm as drone defence for tanks and other armour might just work pretty well.

To be honest, even against drones a decent medium calibre system with AHEAD-style airburst ammunition seems a far more meaningful capability than this approach. It just seems like an extremely narrow engagement envelope to come up with a design that spits out a scattershot delivery of ammunition like this straight off the bat.

Metal storm could be used against torpedos if used with the right water penetrating ammo. It was one of the original use cases described by the company.

Exercise Blue Strike 2025 commenced on 26 March. This is the sixth multinational Naval exercise between Thailand and China.

Recently, a naval formation consisting of multiple vessels from a detachment of the Eastern Theater Command Navy conducted combined air-sea combat-oriented training in a designated area of the East China Sea. Simulating complex maritime battlefield environments, they randomly introduced unexpected scenarios and carried out focused intensive drills on key subjects such as maritime replenishment, three-dimensional maritime delivery, and punitive firepower strikes. This training further honed the command capabilities of officers and the troops' ability to respond decisively to contingencies.
