The fact that China can only deploy ships but not AWACS to patrol around Australia or Canada or US，when their ASW planes can patrol around China all the time，signifies the importance of oversea bases.

US allies can use Okinawa or Philippine bases to operate planes around China，but China cannot do the same due to lack of oversea bases near those countries

I wanted them to go around Australia, but it seems like they might stop over some Pacific islands. Still good.

Edit: I also suspect the airline thing might be intentional, as in it's intentional to create some "trouble" and not just "freedom of navigation" around Australia.

It’s no trouble. PLAN is just rehearsing the defense of the Sino-Australian trade routes from Australia.
