They are speeding up to overtake the US in thirty years. It is a long lasting plan, it starts at least ten years ago and it is in progress.
30 years to overtake the US? I don't see it. America sees the danger and wouldn't be caught flatfooted. When you consider the entire package, beyond just military hardware, even 50 years might be optimistic.

Yeah but what's the US and whatever her "allies" war record again? All that fire power and they're playing like the Golden State Warriors last three games of the series. Seems like Lebron "King" James (China) always find a way to win?:rolleyes:o_O Ask the good folks all over the Middle East if things were better AFTER the US intervenes in their constant regime changing operations "winning hearts and minds".

Article reads like neocon/liberal-imperialist talking points to gin up the China threat for bigger military budgets. Least we forget, not long ago, these people said PLA was weak and ineffective beyond China's borders, and any major conflict would result in "million men swim."

Facts are PLA is still decades behind the US alliance, and Chinese leaders admit it.

Facts are it doesn't take much to make the US alliance quit and everyone knows it. Not too many Americans today can stomach another heavy casualties over seas after that Middle East debacle. They will fight for their homeland BUT not for someone else's, treaty be darn. Today's world in not the Cold War or World Wars fragile conflict world.

30 years to overtake the U.S. militarily, it'll take LESS than that when you consider the entire package.

What package do you mean? I ask in relation to the following items:
  • Chinese secondary schools and universities are still behind US by breath and depth, therefore they produce less well-qualified personnel for PLA. How many generations will it take to catch-up, let alone exceed US?
  • How many decades will it take to fully implement Xi Jinping's fundamental structual changes in the PLA?
  • How many decades will it take for PLA to hone an NCO corp near US military levels?
  • How many more decades will it take to fully modernize PLA hardware?
  • How many more decades will it take for PLA personnel and command staff to gain training, expertise, and experience near US levels?
  • How many more decades will it take to completely flush obsolete PLA doctrines out of the services and develop/implement new ones that will meet Beijing's ambitions?
  • How many more decades would it take for China to have even a tenth of US military presence and support structures around the world?
There are many more issues on top of the above, and they all point to longer than 30 years for PLA to merely catch-up to current US levels. In addition, America is the most innovative nation on Earth, and it will continue to make advancements.

The bottom line is there's little doubt PLA would make great advances in the next 30 years, but overtaking the US isn't one of them. I highly doubt PLA could do it in 50 years, and that's with China growing at 5-6% a year, while US grows at 2.5-3% per year.

I agree, PLAN will send 052D after they get 055 LOL.

Personally, I will be really excited if PLAN decide to send 052D to RIMPAC, one of 052D is named by my hometown. It also means PLAN has confidence to show their best ships to America, I mean, we showed our carrier to America (Of course it is much worse than US carriers, but 052D also worse than Burke), so why don't we show 052D to the United States, too?
I think you will be constantly disappointed in the near future. As Antiterror13 said and I agree, China will NOT send her latest asset to a "rivalry", period.

It has nothing to do with confidence. China is not a showy country, she will not brandishing a big stick around, regardless to whom, strong or weak. China is not kind of person enjoying the competition of "whose dxxk is bigger".;)

Since you are a Chinese, I'd expect or wish you have read the Chinese history and philosophy, you would find no such behavior in peace time, except in a real bloody war.

052Ds are also high demand assets. Sending them away for two months is asking for a lot from any of the Fleets.
yes, and they are very new, the navy need a lot of practice with them before sending them for a long journey regardless where.
