Would you mind share with me how does a rail gun provide any tactical advantage compared with a regular gun ? can it be used for intercepting missiles ? As from the test video in the US version, they claimed it can shoot up to 100 nautical miles at mach 7.5 and impacting the target at mach 5, using only energy as its propellant.

Just some quick google searching about railguns compared to traditional guns, and you can find the number of advantages it have (lower cost per projectile, higher speed, longer range).

With that said, until one actually becomes operational with released stats, hard to say whether or not it will actually achieve those advantages, but China is investing into it, so they are very likely thinking that it will be the future when it comes to cannons.

As for the chinese railgun to be put on 055a (or well I think that will be on it), I think it would have some range of about 200km I believe? Way higher speed of course (not sure about details) and similarly should also have cheaper projectiles.

Would not be surprised that advanced AI or computers could make it possible for railguns to shoot down missiles in the future as well.

That's a big jump from pop3's rumors, namely on the 052D numbers from 9 to 20. No change on the 055's rumored increased numbers of 8.

When did he give a 052D number? Afaik he only stated construction would be ongoing wrt 052D.

I remembered the number given for 052D was 9. He didn't give numbers to 054B.

Surely PLAN learned a few cold war tricks and maneuver from the Russian Navy,
They should do it more often.
