A satellite image of a PLAN ship firing missiles during an exercise. It's unclear what the ship type is.
FWIW, this is one interpretation.

I doubt a submarine would launch a missile so close to a DDG
its fired from a DDG maybe with the cold launch we see no smoke trail from start
it does look like its climbed and dropped to sea skimming level
so its definitely out going and most like from that DDG

My own loose interpretation is a ship trialing its combat systems with a live fire. The ship is something new, perhaps the second 055 in Qingdao or one of the newly assigned destroyers to the NSF with the 10th Destroyer Division (#121 or #122) accompanied by another destroyer from the 1st or the 10th.

Last picture with the 056A is ELINT ship, and the cruise liner in the back might be a barracks ship, 88 or 89. If that is a barracks ship, then one of the carriers will be going.
I've never seen a PLAN exercise so publicize like these ones before. I wonder if the U2 incident brought this much attention.
Besides the NSF, are the other 2 fleets also conducting simultaneous drills?
Total of four fleets. One in Hainan, one near the Paracels, one in the ESF and one in the Bohai.
The fleet shown here, and above previously in the thread is NSF. One might catch a glimpse of the Type 052 oldies here.

These naval exercises were planned before the U2 flight. U2 intel gathering was a responses of the exercises not the trigger.
