The PLAN operates lighter units than the PLA, with the 1st and 164th amphibious brigades currently not maintaining any MBTs, in contrary to the PLA's armored force with one armoured brigade and the 1st and 124th mechanized infantry divs, each comprising one tank regiment.

At least theoretically; I have yet to see proofs that indicates a real operational mobilization of tanks on any of those units. But the hype is still here as we have photos "ZTQ-15s" in naval camouflage;

That's is actually an air force camouflage, not naval. I saw this photo a while ago. From what I gathered, a lot of Chinese PLA watcher are saying that this picture is PS'd (photoshopped).

It's not unfathomable that they would "gang-up-ed" on China. Actually, the PLA has been "gang-up-ed" on by a much larger and relatively much more powerful force before: The "United Nation Forces" in the Korean war. PLA are formed with "the worst case scenario" in mind. PLA are trained to face an enemy not just made up of the USA and her wee little sisters the RAN, ROKN, JMSDF, but also the mighty NATO, and possible even Russia. The gist of the matter has never been whether they will "gang-up", but rather how to counter them most effectively with the resources we have, when they come "ganged-up" to take us out.

This, my friend, is exactly why not even an ounce of Chinese military resources shall be wasted on superficial bragging rights like "I got matching number of LHD's as you, haha". One pound of PLA weapons needs to be focused on taking out 10 pounds of potential enemy's equipment. This is why I don't support wasting resources on the superficial.

1950s is a different world way. Different geopolitics different geohistory. anyway this argument is silly and unproductive. I'm just saying PLAN or even the ENTIRE China military doesn;t need to match the ENTIRE arsenal of the Eastern and Western world. that would be ludicrous.

I would say every decade is different geo-politically. In fact, the world is always changing. But I still believe the principle behind what I said: you should always prepared for the worst, but plan and act to first prevent the worst from happening; if it inevitably happens, you should still be prepared.

Prepare for the worst, meaning you should always assume that the enemy you face is much more stronger, have access to much more resources than you. This is precisely why you should not simply strive to match your enemy in superficial things like same number of LHD's. Those are superficial waste of resources.

I repeat, my main point is DON'T WASTE RESOURCES ON SUPERFICIAL THINGS.

Can someone confirm the class of this ship?

I have seen it before it has a exhaust and large flat deck?

If that exhaust was not there it would be very much like the Bay class

hree Chinese warships have arrived in Sydney Harbour for a visit that was not publicly announced by the Government.

A People's Liberation Army frigate, an auxiliary replenishment ship, and an amphibious vessel are docking at Garden Island for a four-day stopover.

The visit comes just a week after the ABC revealed

during a transit of the South China Sea.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the arrival of the warships had been planned for some time.

He said it was a "reciprocal visit" as Australian naval vessels had visited China.

"It may have been a surprise to others but it certainly wasn't a surprise to the Government," he said.

"[The Chinese vessels] were returning from counter-drug-trafficking operations in the Middle East and that is a further demonstration of the relationship we have."

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is yet to respond to the ABC's questions about the visit.

National Security expert at the Australian National University, Rory Medcalf, said the claim about the ships being on their way back from the Gulf of Aden was confusing.

"Sydney is hardly a convenient stopover on their way home ... this looks like a serious show of presence in the South Pacific," he tweeted.

"Chinese naval visits to Australia have more typically been a lone frigate, not a task group with an amphibious assault ship and 700 personnel."

The interaction with the Chinese military during a

was "professional" and "friendly", according to the ADF.

HMAS Canberra was followed as it passed through the contested waters near islands controversially claimed by Beijing.

Air Commodore Richard Owen said he had no "extra worries" about the engagement.

"We were sensitive to all Navy interactions. We train for that, we're aware of how they will behave and how we behave, so I had no extra worries about it at all," he said.

"I was confident in the capabilities of the Royal Australian Navy and the ADF."

I dont want to read too much into this, as it looks like a brief interview with some random shipyard worker. Given current Chinese ship building capabilities and the pace at which US constructed the kittyhawk class (3 years to launch a ship), it is nothing surprising. Whether China will actually have 10 carriers by 2049 will depend on a variety of other factors.
