According to Henri K.'s source, the location of the 052D's shafts prevent it from having all 9 m cells.
so how many VLS out of 64 have 9 m tubes ?

If the 052D's follow up rectifies this supposed flaw by rearranging the drive shafts which is a major redesigning, then it is highly unlikely that it will be named "052E", seeing as the the entire line shares the similarity of the hull starting from the original 052.So 052E should fix that

Regardless of the name, I was referring to the follow-up IEPS version of this non-heavy destroyer, which could potentially remove the shafts altogether. Note that the IEPS follow-on version of 054A is simply 054B. Earlier this year, when news of this new frigate came out people began speaking of the 052E as the IEPS evolution of 052D.If the 052D's follow up rectifies this supposed flaw by rearranging the drive shafts which is a major redesigning, then it is highly unlikely that it will be named "052E", seeing as the the entire line shares the similarity of the hull starting from the original 052.

An IEP version of the 052D will not result in its shafts being "removed" by any stretch of the imagination. A rim drive will, but IEP simply means there is no mechanical reduction gear, but there is certainly still going to be a drive shaft involved, in this case running from the electric motor to the props.Regardless of the name, I was referring to the follow-up IEPS version of this non-heavy destroyer, which could potentially remove the shafts altogether. yes, it depends on the placement of the electric motors. An IEP version of the 052D will not result in its shafts being "removed" by any stretch of the imagination. The placement of the electric motors will only (potentially) shorten the length of the shafts, but will not eliminate the need for them.yes, it depends on the placement of the electric motors.
