After a nuclear exchange with China, there would be no "USA" for you to fight for. Just like there is no "Atlantis" or "Cherokee Nation" today. China has enough fissile material for at least 1000 plutonium (strategic, not tactical) nukes. At least that figure has been produced by the two known nuclear facilities in China. In such an exchange, all the urban population of the USA would be vaporized. Welcome to the stone age.

Good to see you again Roger.

It certainly is very likely that China would unleash nuclear weapons on the United States in that situation.

However you have to understand that in that situation, China will be more throughly destroyed then even the US. Obviously China's leaders would not want that to happen. It is much more likely that they would use nuclear weapons against a beachead and/or invasion fleet. Or they could not use nuclear weapons at all, rather allowing a US expeditionary force to be destroyed by vastly superior numbers of Chinese troops and China's size.

The campaign needed to get to the point where the next step would be an invasion would likely be long and bloody enough that anything short of victory, by that point, would be outrageous. And it would need to be done as a method of prevention. The likely use of nukes at some point would make an invasion politically feasible, as well, as would any assault on US soil.

The model I like to look at is 1812. British burned the whitehouse and trampled the population. What did USA settle for? get out and leave alone. You go for what you can get, that's the point. Russia can truck columns of uranium to Iran, you'd still try to smile buddies at the Russian, wouldn't you?

ICBM's are not that big a deal to build, just a fraction of cost of space launch. China will be ready come any major war.

You don't unleash nuclear weapons unless you want to be destroyed yourself. So, I don't think the Chinese would shoot their nukes, just like the US.

Good to see you too, Finn. But has it really been that long ;)

Limitation on nuclear escalation is wishful thinking. If the USA has the audacity to knock on China's door and actually succeed in establishing the basis for an amphibious landing -- it's USE IS OR LOSE IT.

Be very clear about that, folks.

If the US ever knocks on China's door with a gun, it should be prepared to see a gun on the other side.
