PLA air operations in westpac region

They deserve all the bad pr they get if they don't learn this game. Sure, western established international order has established what they view as acceptable practice and what's not. But at this point, there is nothing stopping them from observing the 7th fleet or even sending spy ships next to Hawaii.

And what would the Chinese Navy actually gain from sending surveillance ships next to Hawaii?

Yes, not only Hawaï. All US Navy bases on the west coast should have those aggressive surveillance act from PLA. They are doing but still too few. Anyways I have seen lot of activities from those AGI ship recently

I think 795 was spying on the successful test of USAF ARRW hypersonic missile of May 14.
And 795 is out again on June 2 (RIMPAC?)

Also see what this RC-135U was doing. Where will PLA begin releasing report like what Japan military do every time?

What US gain by sending surveillance ships and plane near CN bases?
US PACOM naval forces HQ is at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The US actually gets to see the Chinese Navy and Air Force conducting operations next to the Chinese coast and the integrated air defences.

In comparison, US PACOM ships/aircraft can easily outrun a Chinese surveillance ship and conduct operations elsewhere. And it's not like the Chinese Navy or Air Force can realistically attack Pearl Harbour.

huh? what do you think AGI-792 was doing near HEHCS : a facility providing very low frequency (VLF) radio communications for U.S and allied submarines operating in the western Pacific?

Couple of points

It is actually credible for the Chinese Navy and Air Force to attack an Australia as which has a much smaller Navy and Air Force. Plus the distances involved means vast swathes of Australia have no defence.

But it's not credible for the Chinese Navy and Air Force to attack Pearl Harbour, so why should the Chinese Navy send a Chinese surveillance ship to Pearl Harbour? EDIT. All that happens is negative "China enemy" headlines for little intelligence of value.

The Copium Zone seemed far more reasonable than usual, other than the typical "we were just passing by doing nothing at all and the PLA was to rude to us"

If I recall correctly JASDF has dumped flares in the paths of PLAAF fighter aircraft before (not the time they got locked on but another occurrence December 2016).

Hmm, there are a lot of intelligence you can gather. All electromagnetic emissions, sonar signature gathering. Aircraft radar signature. Everything basically. You can gather all of this encrypted intelligence that can later be cracked with quantum computing.

I actually think west coast is not needed. The ships themselves only have so much fuel. You get a lot more done just sailing to Hawaii and squat there for a while.

If the Australian P-8 would not change course after repeated warning, then PLAAF dumping flares and chaffs in front it is the next escalation without firing warning shots, which is a very serious escalation. It seems to work, no one got hurt and the message was clearly sent by PLAAF.
