The RAAF P-8 maritime surveillance aircraft was intercepted by a Chinese J-16 fighter during "routine maritime surveillance activity" in international airspace in the region on May 26, defence said in a statement .
"The intercept resulted in a dangerous manoeuvre which posed a safety threat to the P-8 aircraft and its crew," it said.

the Chinese plane released flares while flying closely alongside the Australian plane, before cutting in front of the P-8 & releasing a bag of "chaff" into its flight path, which included aluminium fragments that were sucked into the engine of the Australian plane

I will love to know the exact location of Australian P-8, their heading direction and what are they doing at the moment the PLAAF or PLANAF jet intercepted the P-8.
When someone blocked your way when you are spying them, there must be something sensitive just right infront of you, or you are about to enter their airspace. Either they shoot you down which is not an option in peace time, or they do something drastic to force you to change direction.
