Today is the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the August 1st Aerobatic Team.
They should keep a J-7 team, too; just to show their progress! The old, red and white, scheme looks cool!
A old short documentary of Ba Yi from 1986I just remembered that originally the Ba Yi dated back even further to 1956 to a regiment within the 7th Air Division, that was responsible for aerial demonstration on certain events and escorting political leaders ... this was transferred to Yancun in July 1960 and as the 19th Air Regiment on 29th January 1962 (?!) - as such contradicting the date today - it became something like the PLAAF's Escort and Air Show Brigade flying JJ-5 carrying a typical red-white colour scheme.

Keep them, too! And J-6s, if they still have any!I just remembered that originally the Ba Yi dated back even further to 1956 to a regiment within the 7th Air Division, that was responsible for aerial demonstration on certain events and escorting political leaders ... this was transferred to Yancun in July 1960 and as the 19th Air Regiment on 29th January 1962 (?!) - as such contradicting the date today - it became something like the PLAAF's Escort and Air Show Brigade flying JJ-5 carrying a typical red-white colour scheme.

Congrats but I still think they should change to the latest J-10C and again change their colour scheme! This blue-red-white candy-like scheme does not really represent a modern PLAAF IMO, but hey, these are just my 2 Cents.
Something like this....

Man... I remember that candy. Chewy milk candy with an edible inner wrapping aside from the outer colored wrapping. It's funny and ironic you mentioned candy. I recall when the August 1st Aerobatic team first switched to J-10s, they had a different color scheme (first image below, red circled). The online community loudly complained that it resembled the wrappers of an iconic Chinese candy called (second image). The PLAAF listened to the complaints and decided to redo the paint scheme. It came up with half a dozen alternatives and presented them in an online poll, and the most popular choice became the new official color scheme, which is what you see today. I guess they didn't go far enough because it still reminds you of candy wrappers.
AVIC wishes everyone Happy New Year and a successful Year of the Tiger.
