Looks like it's in the western regions, not sure if tibet exactly.

Even though CDF lists GX4 as and ELINT plane, I don't think there's a consensus as to what GX4's purpose is yet. It's one of the most numerous GX planes produced, with some seven examples supposedly flying. It's been called for ELINT use, or long range jamming, or even that those side arrays are radar for surface or air surveillance...

Going posts from earlier years, I came across this nice pic of GX-4's nose. Looks like it actually does have MAWS of some kind (same as on ZDK-03 and Y-8GX6?)

The other smaller antennae looks enough to perform ELINT function and I don't know other ELINT planes with those massive side arrays.

Yep it seems ELINT operation is not the only task of this plane. I remember crobato saying those massive side arrays look like the 052C phased arrays. This aircraft might also be used for scanning air, sea and ground targets.

Note the configuration of the IAF Gulfstream G550.

What is the attached image? (at CDF it was labelled Y-8CA Electronic Attack Aircraft 'Pre-High New Program')

PS: regarding The image escobar called GX4, Hui Tong calls the Y-8G Cub/High New 3 an that an ECM array and not ELINT

That's an active radar jammer variant reportedly first developed in the late 1990s, before the whole GX program started.

this is actually an article about the J-20, but interestingly it mentions this :

The Chinese are also developing several types of airborne early warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft. These include the Shaanxi Y-8 Moth, based on the Antonov An-12, and the KJ-2000, based on the Ilyushin IL-76 airlifter, the report says.

Yeah those are photos from earlier this year, showing the GX8 which I believe is a replacement for GX2 in a more refined package.
