The first serial or operational machine ???

Apparently it was spotted off hainan, from huitong's page... And apparently the radar is an AESA?

Either way it's good to see the Z-8 AEW in PLA colours. I expect we'll see a bit of this helicopter as the carrier program moves ahead, and even when the "Y-7" based AEWC gets into operation with carriers the Z-8 will still have value for future LHD/LHAs or could be specialized into tracking ground targets for the army in future.

KJ-3000?? Lol for the Z-8 AEW maybe KJ-3 or KJ-0.3 will be a better designation...

That radar looks pretty small, any idea what the range is on that thing?

according to april issue of combat aircraft monthly, Russia officially deliver 6 KA-31AEW,since KA-31AEW will equip the varyag as AEW, then what is main purpose for the design and possible production of Z-8AEW?
or Z-8AEW was not AEW at all,but battlefield surveillance for MLRS and attack helos?

I dont think any country in the world has so many uses for only 2 kinds of helos

the Z8 ( Super Frelon ) and the Z9 (Eurocopter Dauphin) in China do more roles than anything before them

they have provided a testbed for alot of Chinese systems and when China eventaully moves to fully home grown indigenous helos these will aid in the transition , EC175 will prove very useful

China needs larger helos of kind EC725, AgustaWestland AW101 and Marlin
