Didn't the KJ-200 prototype crash or something? Looks like it's making some good progress with two of them..... :china:

If only China had more Il-76's to convert to KJ-2000's now *sigh*

Gents the poster of this pic claims they were taken at Beijing Nan Yuan Airport May 28th, 2009. Anyone care to possibly verify that statement??

i'm not convinced that they only have 4 in service. I always thought they have another 4 somewhere. We will see, I'm probably wrong.

Looks like there are at least 4 KJ-200, not sure what the count is at though.

they were saying to monitor North Korea? Maybe there is some kind of training exercise.

I'd go with the former.

Given North Korea has been even more bellicose than normal it would make sense to have a strong AWACS/recon presence nearby. It gives China an increased ability to keep an eye on Pyongyang, whilst also letting its neighbours (know) they're being watched (and thus hopefully ensuring it won't do anything stupid).

If they took gentle hints, the movement of bodyguards and then group armywould have done the job.

Not saying that's not the Chinese motive, mind. BUt I have my doubts about it accomplishing anything.

it seem to me that AWACS are undergoing upgrade.
one important element of AWACS is absent, electronic support measurement. (ESM)
