I have been following Chinese military for over 20 years

and this is one reason I follow so I never get caught by surprise and then have to spend 10 days researching

but at least a few times a year China still manages to surprise and excite most of us even the professionals

and that is a very rare attribute and we are very lucky to witness it

in the medium term KJ-3000 is more impactful than the next gen fighters. those fighters will take many years to reach full operational capacity, KJ-3000 can probably get there by 2028. it has roughly the same aerodynamic design as the KJ-2000, so flight tests will yield less surprises.

Why so long? I think these can be inducted rather quickly. The question is what the production rate will be since these are obviously competing with tanker/transport for airframes, I don't think it'll be that high for now especially since KJ-500/700 is already a fine AEW&C with good endurance. Perhaps around 5/yr for the next few years?

I don't think KJ-3000 could keep up. 6th gen fighters either need a AWACS platform with similar range, operation ceiling, and speed, or they would have to do the AEW thing themselves.
