Interesting as the Saudi Arabian Army is a Abrams user. with standing orders for M1A2S MBT's. the Yemen conflict did damage 20 units that we know of with ATGM of Iranian origins. The M1A2S is more or less identical to the M1A2 save for DU mesh.
Okay Now I see what happened. and NO, Realistically there is little if any that the T90SM offers not found the Abrams family other than a lighter weight.
So In August The saudis tried to place an Order for 153 new M1A2S Abrams MBT which was Okayed
Now things get interesting because There was some kick back in Congress where some members of the senate and the State department tried to block the sale because of Yemen. This peaked when on dec 13 The Obama admin suspended sales ( Ironically ) of precision guided munitions. ( I say Ironic as the whole reason for guided munitions is to reduce collateral by having a higher chance to hit enemy targets.) The Trump Admin moved early this Month to reverse the block, and has made moves to repair US Saudi relations.
So the Saudis were looking to hedge their bets, fearing that Obama or Trump would close off Sale of the Abrams tanks. Now the Question is are the Saudis still looking at T90 or was the deal more or less dropped.
There is talk that Saudi Arabia will run out of money in five years time. And there is a second claim of interest by Kuwait.
Both are Abrams MBT users with upgrades and new units on order.
Now Kuwait also uses 150 M84AB MBT They ordered more but the maker was Yugoslavia and that broke up before the order was completed. These Tanks are getting older so it may be that the Kuwaitis are looking to replace them.
As for the Saudis It may be that they were looking to buy T90SM because of the issues late in the Obama admin it may also be that they want to supplement their Abrams units and increase their Tank forces. Or it could just be want of a Cheaper tank. the T90Sm having a unit price of 4.6 which is half the price of the latest Abrams.
there is always talk of the oil boom going bust. Yet even as the US has shifted away from middle Eastern oil other nations need it. Especially China right now. The question is not of if there is oil it's of how to get it.There is talk that Saudi Arabia will run out of money in five years time.
This is not about oil but about money. How can KSA continue to buy weapons or even avoid break up if the money runs out?there is always talk of the oil boom going bust. Yet even as the US has shifted away from middle Eastern oil other nations need it. Especially China right now. The question is not of if there is oil it's of how to get it.
