Pentagon Built Another Multimillion Dollar Afghan Project That Goes Unused
The United States built a $14.7 million warehouse facility in Afghanistan, where the massive complex now sits empty, because its intended occupants were sent home before the building was ever completed.
The military warehouse facility in Kandahar was well built, an inspector general investigation concluded. Construction of the four warehouses and an administration building, which were to house the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), wrapped up in February 2014.
The Army, however, had already sent DLA home in August 2013, six months before the complex was completed.
Nonetheless, the project "continued uninterrupted," without any attempts to reevaluate or downsize it, according to a new report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR).
Instead, the military added $400,000 of modifications to the buildings – fully knowing DLA would never use it, SIGAR wrote in a report released Tuesday.
In the end, the facility was built two years past deadline and $1.2 million over budget.
"Although the $14.7 million DLA warehouse facility was well built, lengthy construction delays led to the facility never being used for its intended purpose," SIGAR said. "Had the facility been completed on schedule, DLA would have been able to use the warehouse facility for more than 2 years before its mission ended in Kandahar."
Tuesday's report from SIGAR is the latest in a series highlighting how US taxpayer dollars were wasted in Afghanistan. In another case, the military constructed a $36 million building in Helmand province, even though a US general said it was not needed.

US F-16 Jets Delivery to Iraq Major Milestone in Bilateral Relations
The US delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Iraq is a significant landmark of the two countries’ strategic cooperation in fight against the Islamic State, the White House said in a press release following a phone conversation between US Vice President Joe Biden and Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — During the conversation, Biden and Al-Abadi also discussed the ongoing military campaign against ISIL in Anbar Province, and the vice president reaffirmed US support in the fight against the terrorist group.
“Both leaders [Obama and Al-Abadi] welcomed the delivery of new US F-16 fighter aircraft to Iraq as a major milestone in the strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq,” the release read on Tuesday.
Biden also offered condolences for Friday’s deadly terrorist attack near the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
First Iraqi-Piloted US F-16 Fighters Land in Iraq After Months of Delay
On Friday, a car laced with nearly three tons of explosives killed 120 people and injured another 170 at a busy market in Khan Bani Saad, north of Baghdad. The attack took place ahead of this weekend’s end of Ramadan festivities.
The ISIL has claimed responsibility for the deadly car bombing in Diyala province. The radical Sunni group — infamous for multiple atrocities, mass killings and destructions of cultural artifacts — operates on territories it has occupied across Iraq and Syria.
The F-16 is one of the oldest and regularly used combat aircraft in the US Air Force. It became operational in 1978 and is still flown by many air forces around the world, including Israel, Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt.

Two Policemen Killed in Turkey Near Syrian Border
Two Turkish police officers were killed in what appear to be linked attacks in a southeastern province of the country that borders Syria, Hurriet newspaper reported Wednesday, citing the province’s governor.
ANKARA (Sputnik) — The murder took place in the town of in Sanliurfa Province.
According to the governor, the two policemen were found dead in their homes on Wednesday. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear.
The attack comes two days after a bomb exploded in the Suruc District of the same province, leaving 32 dead and over 100 injured. The Islamic State jihadist group, notorious for committing numerous atrocities, was reportedly behind the attack.
Turkey tightened security in the region following the incident in Suruc.

No worries, I'm sure ISIS or local warlords will make great use of these facilities. This is one of the few pieces of our MIC that I absolutely hate. Too much pork barrrel projects and absolute waste but 100% funded for by the unsuspecting American taxpayers.
I hadn't realized they'd already begun making deliveries (thought they were still training pilots on the new jet). The French certainly lost no time making that delivery happen. Guess they didn't want to give them a chance to change their mind and back out of the deal. Meanwhile, the Iraqi Air Force is still waiting for those F-16s to arrive.
I give them credit though. The French make a good looking airplane.

Iran is Unaffected by Nuclear Deal
According to the latest reports stemming from the P5+1 talks, Iran is now insisting that UN sanctions on its be lifted as part of a long-term nuclear accord.
Iran is believed to have the largest strategic missile force in the Middle East, producing short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, a long-range cruise missile, and long-range rockets. Although all of its missiles are conventionally armed at present, its medium-range ballistic missiles could deliver a nuclear weapon if Iran were to build such a device.
The main Iranian ballistic missile force consists of Shahab 3, Shihab 3B and the newer Sejil-2 two stage ballistic missile.
The Iranian Shahab-3B missile is said to be a derivative of the 1,000-1,300 kilometer range North Korean Nodong-1. The Nodong missile was developed by North Korea with Iranian financial assistance. In 2005 Iran claimed for the first time to have developed and produced a laser gyroscope INS system coupled with GPS as backup. With that guidance system, the Shahab-3B could archive an accuracy of around 30-50m CEP or even less. This new improved accuracy was apparently the reason why the warhead weight has been significantly decreased - to suggested 500-750kg. This, namely, is sufficient for pin-point target attack capability.
Iran has successfully tested an optimized version of the solid-fuel Sejil-2 missile. This new version of the Sejil-2 is faster during the powered flight portion of its trajectory and also during the re-entry phase. It is also harder to detect for anti-missile systems, as it is covered with anti-radar material. The new highly maneuverable missile is also more efficient as it requires less amount of time for prelaunch preparations.

It's because French were building Rafales for their own air force but thanks to recent export orders those fighters are now going to foreign countries and that allows French to send few units relatively fast to customers so they can begin training. Egypt will start receiving more fighters after 2018.
Dassault can manufacture less than 30 Rafales per year so that put's limitations what they can do and as far I know that is one of the reason why Indians wanted to manufacture Rafales on license.
