Performance of Chinese exported weapons in current/recent conflicts

IMO both PLA and Pakistan Army should look into HAPC's and HIFV's. Both countries have significant numbers of old tanks that could be rebuilt. There's a place for light and mobile, and then there's a place for heavy metal.

There is no insurgent for PLA to fight. Buy these heavy APC for what?

Conventional warfare for PLA is more possible.

Not necessarily buy. China has a large number of really old Type 59s and could easily utilize them, converting them into IFVs and HAPCs just like the Achzarit and BTR-T. Obviously not all Type 59s will be upgraded to the D standard, that'd be a little too much tanks, tanks that still aren't up to par with world standards. (But enough for most applications) Nevertheless PLA does not need 6000 59Ds. (And I've always thought the D upgraded was a little half hearted.)

These are war machines, and war machines should expect the unexpected. RPGs would easily penetrate and kill IFVs and APCs that China has in service now.

And of course, you can advertise this for other armies.

I would disagree... Xinjiang province is a hotbed for Muslim extremists, especially groups that are considered affiliated with Al-Qaeda.

Those 3x3 WZ5 APC is more than enough to give PLA special forces protection when rooting out those xinjiang insurgent.

I don't think so.

There is very strong evidence to suggest that Xinjiang separatists are being supported and trained by Al-Qaeda and Chechen separatists... namely, the use of IED's, ambushes, etc. If the situation becomes 'hot' on the ground, the Chinese can be facing a very tough insurgency. And in this sort of conflict, the more protection you have, the more men that can walk away from attacks.

You don't build things in the morning to fight in the afternoon. By the time that the Pakistani Army needed Heavy APC and IFV's in May of this year, it was too late. They simply had to go fight with whatever they had.

As the world's population grows, more and more conflicts will take place in urban environments. Open field is where tanks excel, not in city streets where tank gun range and frontal armor means little.

I would prefer modern MBTs with TUSK add-on kit, they have good protection against RPGs.

PL-5? Are you sure it was the E model? Do you have anymore info on that?
Did it actually lock on but was fooled by chaff, or was it that missile simply never even locked on?

I could not get a clear shot of the PL-5 missile used by the SLAF...

These are the only images released recently....

I am not sure whether one can give a definite answer about the version. Unofficially is it the PL-5E

Hi Guys,

well am from pakistan, and the destroyed tank pic is of Al-Zarrar tank, employed for the first time in the war on insurgents, as it had better survivability and main reason for its employment was due to its night fighting capability, as in this phase of war in swat, army relied heavily on night operations.

As for this tank, it was destroyed by a huge IED and by the grace of Allah the crew had survived. The area where this tank was destroyed, as by army official recollections, this area saw a very heavy pitched battle, and the troops faced 20+ suicide attacks on this same spot where u see the tank destroyed. The insurgents attack was so heavy that they had to withdraw and the next day brought reinforcements with this tank, which made the insurgents run away.
Crux of the story is that the tanks proved its worth and took hits even by RPGs.

Pakistan had employed these latest tanks for the first time in COIN operations, and with the passage of time and battles they will learn more and make more effective techniques to stop damage to these tanks.
