Actually all these wargames are as much to horn the skills of the participants' military as they are commercial show for their products.

Since I don't think China could sell their J-11 or Su-30 to third country, there really is no need to showcase these weaponries, especially in front of the Russian. However J-10 is a product that might be interested in many parties, so by showcasing these weapons and letting other see what the J-10 can do, it might attract more interest and ultimately generate some sales figures.

So today's wargame is many folds.

1) train soldiers
2) For diplomatic purposes especially with friendly nations.
3) A show of might, so that people will not take the participants lightly.
4) Commerical reasons (to showcase equipments you wanted to sell, and to shop around for equipments being showcased.)

Great analysis Rhino! However I also want to know whether the J-10 will participate in mock dog-fights with the Russian Flankers (perhaps in secret). Could this also be intended as a sort of "take that" to the naval exercises in the Yellow Sea as well?

From the Articles and News Videos I've seen and read from Russiatoday News agency. The Russians are actually complaining to China about the J-11s.

Russian arms manufacturers are accusing China of Being Cheap and not paying for parts of their licensed copies of SUs and are installing home grown tech in the J-11s. I know its a strategy so China wont be so Dependent on Sukhoi when replacements of parts are quickly needed, But it's not cool Ripping off your ally.

Well anyways Cheers to Russian Chinese Alliance. Nice to see the nations in SCO keep order in their backyard.

It's the manufacturer's duty to make customer want to buy their product, the consumer is not obligated to go to the manufacturer for parts replacement and repairs.

Not sure if you actually know what douche means, it's someone who is brainless or stupid, which certainly doesn't apply to the PLAAF.
Edit: If you are saying it will make the PLAAF look like jerks or assholes, the proper term is douchebag, which is not to be confused with douche.

well, looks like China is also sending H-6U and KJ-2000 to the Peace Mission 2010. The first one isn't surprising since J-10s need the refueling to comfortably fly over there, do the mission and then come back.

So definitely some sort of dogfighting will take place, I guess?

The Russians are also sending in Su-24s and Su-25 and some 150 land vehicles.

Well it makes sense for the Russians to send in Su-24s and Su-25s since those are dedicated ground-attack planes. Why China is sending in a plane that is tailored to air combat is a bit unusual, to say the least.

Maybe the forces each have different goals? The Russians will lead some sort of Tactical Bombing run, The Chinese will give air cover and Kazakhstan will give the logistics support.

Only reason I can think off.

Air superiority over what? Terrorists on flying carpets? :D

Am I really the only person on this forum who thinks that there is greater significance to China sending the J-10s than on the paper?
