Do you guys think that China would sell its 054A to Pakistan in the very near future, say 2-5 years? Which one would you guys say would be a bigger limiting factor, Pakistan's ability to pay for the full price or China unwilling to export its most advanced tech.

what advanced tech? China already sold its first stealth ship to PN, gave ToT to PN for F22P its nothing to do with technology transfer, J10 is also avaible to PAF

question will be what is requirments of PN, Type054A fits in with PLAN doctrine might not fit in with PN doctrine, I have a feeling in the future we could see a modified Type054A for PN service with custom built systems which meet the requirments for PN in Arabian Sea

What stealth ship?

If there were concerns over anything on the 054A, it would be the HQ16 missile system, sonar and battle management systems.

But China has the capabilities to develop an export version of the HQ16 seeker, just like the did with the PL12, and all other sensitive systems could be subbed out with export versions easily and quickly enough. And even though the 054A is forming the backbone of the PLAN fleet, it is still not an 052C, so the PLAN would have fewer concerns about potential adversaries getting a good measure of their capabilities from the ship if sold to the PN.

The biggest obstacle is probably build capacity. HP and HD shipyards are pumping 054As and other warships out pretty much as quickly as they can manage. Unless Dalian suddenly moves up a gear, there is nowhere else available to build more 054As for export if the PLAN orders don't dry up suddenly.

Part of the reason why China has been so generous with ToT on the likes of the F22Ps and other new ships for the PN could be that Chinese yards just don't have the spare capacity to make more warships for the PN even if they wanted to. Don't get me wrong, if it came down to it, the Chinese yards could suspend all commercial work and pump out warships at a much faster rate, but in peace time, for profits only, commercial work probably nets the yards more profit, so they would rather give ToT for Pakistan to build more ships themselves than have to give up commercial contracts to build ships for the PN for less money.

also I dont think build capacity is a issue for China, those 3 F22P were built in China and deleivered very fast, and only 1 is being made in Pakistan, the 4th and last one, not much point in giving ToT to get spare capacity for only one ship which would be ready in 6 months or less anyway, the ToT was requested by PN cus they wanted to establishment manufacture capability for F22Ps and also experience in repair facilitys just like we did for Agusta 90B submarines from France

but yeah a large order for something like Type054A would certainly put some strain on HD and HP, but I am sure they can slip the orders in somewhere

That's a pretty nice photo actually. It would be interesting to see the next one launched in Pakistan. It seems like a cheap enough option that PN can order a couple of more or build them locally under license. As for 054A, I think the discussion is quite far along. As for the configurations, we will just have to wait and see. I don't think it will look exactly like PLAN ones, since the two navies have different requirements. Any 054A in PN would serve in more important capacity due to PN's size.

it is quite posisble that pakistan will equip these fast attack boats with UAVs or Camcopter like this one



also PN should be aiming for this

4 F22P frigates with Z9C~3000 ton
4 of these 500 ton fast attack missile boats with UAV
4 Corvettes in class of Type056, equipped with helicopter and for ASW~1500 ton
4 Type054A frigates with Z9C or Z15~4000 ton modified for dedicated air defence

this will give PN 16 advanced surface vessals of similar origin with ToT in 4 categorys of tonnage

Wow Brother, that will needs lots of money. I don't think PN will have the budget to afford that. 4 Type054A will prove very costly for PN. Other than that maintaining 4 of those classes of warship is still feasible.

No.. 4 F22P are actually Jiangwei III class Frigate. 054A are a different beast.
