Unfortunately I think USA will be winning most golds again by a much bigger margin this time.

China messed up 4 expected golds from gymnastics and swimming. Meanwhile Simon Biles is allowed to take her Adderall this time so she will get multiple gold medals.

China has to have swimming locked down to stand a chance.

China will need to get golds from other sports to make up for the 4 golds lost in gymnastics and swimming. The golds lost in gymnastics is much worse than swimming because the swimmers were getting actively sabotaged and they have an excuse. Gymnastics team have underperformed. China will need around 40 golds to have the chance to win the Olympics. If the Americans dominate athletics, they will get 40+ golds. If China is not winning gold, the next best option is to hope America is not winning gold either.

She did not test positive for doping LOL. They gave her special permission to dope.
Adderall is literally a performance enhancing drug. It is a drug that enhances Simone Biles' performance. All Americans care about is legality. If it's legal, then it's good. If it's not legal, then it's bad. Not enough Americans understand that laws can be bad.

China has a chance to get two gold medals in tennis. It'll be difficult, since their opponents are really good, but it's certainly possible.

I think it's a good thing to root for China, but I think it's obnoxious to root against a specific country. The US is a rotten country, but most of its athletes are just normal people. I'm actually friends with an Olympic medalist (not Katie Ledecky). She's white and she's an incredibly nice and nonpolitical person. I was also on the same summer swim team as a guy who went on to become an Olympic gold medalist. He was kind of a frat boy but he was definitely not a racist or mean person from what I could tell.

I've seen many, many Indians actively rooting against China even when India isn't in the same competition and I think it's pathetic. I don't think we should do that. The US has done some nasty things to China, but I don't think it's a good thing to root against its athletes, who have worked incredibly hard.

Off the top of my mind, in terms of "high chance" golds, China still has:

4 in table tennis
5 in diving
2 in synchro swimming
1-2 in tennis (miraculously)
5-6 in weightlifting

and maybe:
1-2 in shooting
1-2 in badminton
~2 in gymnastics?

So around mid-high 20s at the least, and the rest will have to depend on more "unknown" or "unlikely" sports. Realistically I think it's going to be somewhere in the low 30s, which would still be a decent result given how much bias there was in sport selection this year and the small delegation China sent, but I think US will probably get high 30s

I don't think the Americans are doing as well as they need to be in the pool either. They had 11 golds last time from swimming. This time they have 4 and there are only 10 events left (or 5 with 9 events left assuming Ledecky performs normally in the 800 free). They will not make it to 11 again. We had 3 gold last time; at worst, we're low by 2. I don't think the US can get 9 either to even it out, but we'll see.

China has players in the semifinals that we've never had before. The ladies tennis singles is a new one. The mixed doubles we are in the finals. Our volleyball team is unbeaten. With Russia out, the 2 artistic swimming golds should be ours. We have boxers in the semifinals (although 2 of the ladies will have to fight intersex fuckers, basically half dudes that made the other girls quit and cry and are rejected by regular non-woke boxing). Our BMX gold is new and we're doing really well in the shooting; we have matched our haul in Tokyo with 6 events left and the US has 0 golds compared to 3 last time. We seem to be doing better in badminton and table tennis than last time, although it's a bit early to be sure. Our 20km women's walk is a gold we did not have last time.

Negatively, we can't match our weightlifting haul due to reduced events/quotas. We had 7 last time; this time, it looks like 5, maybe 6 with a ton of luck. US women's gymnastics will dominate this time with Biles back on her dope.

So the competition is still alive.

Certain events are increased and others are decreased to fuck China. China needs to fuck them back somehow. Chinese are playing the sports but China isn't "playing the game".

1. Rooting doesn't do anything to or for anybody.

2. As the Chinese saying goes, "You can know the person, know the face, but not the heart." If Americans weren't racist inside, they wouldn't elect racist hateful leaders. Americans love to pretend to be nice but hire the nastiest people in the world to rob and steal other countries' resources for themselves. What they show in person is a mask; what they do on the international stage is what they are inside. America is a democracy; they are assumed to be adequatelyu represented by their leaders. Don't fall for their trick; they are the nastiest people on earth behind the closed doors of the voting booth

I'd go 5-6 in weightlifting. Shi Zhiyong is the only guy in doubt because he's old and injured. All others should be gold unless crazy shit happens.
and maybe:
1-2 in shooting
1-2 in badminton
Why so low in badminton? There are 5 medals. I don't follow the sport but I see that so far, Chinese athletes are still in every category. Let me know if you have fan info.
?? in gymnastics?
There are 2 in trampoline, we have a good chance on the men's rings and parallel bars... I think. High bar? Does anybody know?

Our women's team is getting overhauled. The Chinese sports academy has had enough. Our old doctrine of using young girls who are very light has to be scrapped because that's now recognized to be antiquated. These athletes are young, inexperienced and retire at age 20 because puberty makes them too heavy to use what they've learned. We need to beef them up so they rely on strength and vigor; this type of athlete can last for longer and become more seasoned from competition. They have finally realized this and will implement large changes to training doctrine.

We took the BMX gold and had chances in the skate. Weightlifting's reduction is very understandable and just if you know the story behind it. What else?

I wouldn't be so quick to say that. The problem is they are favoured or at least 50/50 in most of the remaining swimming events. They still have a pretty good chance of winning up to 8 in swimming

50m men's freestyle (between AUS and US Caeleb)
100m men's butterfly (Caeleb)
1500m men's freestyle (Robert Finke)
200m men's indiv medley (three way between US Carson, France Leon and China Wang Shun)
4x100 men's medley relay (don't know whether their team is strong this year)

800m women's freestyle (Ledecky)
200m women's indiv medley (Kate)
4x100m women's medley relay (between AUS and US)

Just a gut feel as an old fan. Chinese badminton athletes are just not really dominant anymore. I think the best chance is in mixed doubles and women's doubles. Men's singles Shi Yuqi was promising like...6 years ago but is not really top class material anymore, Women's singles Chen Yufei is still decent but past her prime, men's doubles pair are just pretty weak

Fun fact: Tomokazu Harimoto, the guy who Fan Zhendong beat, is ethnically Chinese. His Chinese name is Zhang Zhihe. His parents immigrated to Japan from Sichuan.
Absolutely disgusting... I feel like I just took an open water swim in Paris. It does explain why he's so good; looks like the challengers to Fan only go downhill from here cus he was the toughest not on the Chinese team. I see now that both his parents were pro in China. Hanjian family deserves a fitting end.

@azn_cyniq verify this. What are the chances and medal expectations for the US?

The US is definitely not the gold medal favorite for the 50 m men's freestyle (Cameron McEvoy of Australia is the favorite), 100 m men's butterfly (Leon Marchand is the favorite), and 1500 m men's freestyle (Daniel Wiffen of Ireland is the favorite). I'm not sure about the relays, but the 200 m men's IM and the 200 m women's IM will be close and the US has a good chance of getting the gold medal in those events.

I'm getting my information from this website:

If you look at the 200 m men's IM times for this season, Wang Shun has the fastest time. That's why I think he's a legitimate gold medal contender.
