mix double badminton, two chinese teams meet in quarter final. i read that the badminton team expects 2 golds and hope for 4 golds. 2 golds is the same as tokyo

swimming is probably underforming.
the men gynamtics is not doing as well as expected (hope to make up in individual event to even last olympics)

Is Pan taking part in mixed and mens medley? What about Qin Haiyang?

Pan definitely will swim in men’s medley relay. But I was wondering about the mixed medley though. In previous world championships, I believe the mixed relay team is Xu, Qin, Zhang Yu fei and the female freestyler whose name escape me sorry, Yang Junxian(?). However with Qin out of form, maybe Pan will take part but that will mean replacing Qin with Tang Qianting the female breaststroker and usually with mixed it’s better to start with two male swimmers to get a head start and avoid the waves and splashes. so it’s tough decision.

Other than 800m women's freestyle, what other events are US favoured to win in swimming?

20 events already over and they only have 3 golds, feels like they're underperforming

Edit: okay searched a little. Some events US is favoured in:
50m men's freestyle (Caeleb)
100m men's butterfly (Caeleb)
1500m men's freestyle (Robert Finke)
4x100 men's medley relay (don't know whether their team is strong this year)

800m women's freestyle (Ledecky)
200m women's freestyle (Kate has a chance against defending SA champion)
200m women's butterfly (Canada's Summer looking strong but US's Regan and China's Zhang YF both have a chance)
200m women's indiv medley (Kate? not sure)
4x200m women's freestyle relay (between AUS and US)
4x100m women's medley relay (between AUS and US)

Still a pretty big chance for them to catch up to 10 or more

It's unfortunate that these political disputes have apparently come to affect how athletes relate to one another. I have read that Pan Zhanle looked up to Kyle Chalmers when he was the Gold medallist at Rio in 2016, so it is regrettable to hear that Chalmers ignored him at an earlier meeting. Still, there are many facets to these affairs and we are privy only to a small fraction of them. I choose to highlight an apparently happier moment of respect and camaraderie:

Yeah I heard his coach is Phelps previous coach? But that guy is a freak athlete. The combination of swimming breaststroke and butterfly individual events and performing so well is remarkable, in addition to his individual Medley. The French got a big star. Thank goodness China has Pan.

i paid attention to him because his 400 IM because WSJ had an article about him about US has been trying to find the next Phelps, but it turns out he is a french a day before his 400IM gold

probably mixed double and another? tokyo was mixed double and women single. i think there are some chance in all events. so just cheer and hope for the best.

Just checked the starting list for the 50m freestyle heats, unfortunately no one from team China is swimmi

even when China has good 100m freestyler, they never could transfer it to the 50m race. I guess different sprinting techniques?

I don't speak mandarin, but people are posting that Pan felt discriminated against or hostility from the copers. Maybe someone can translate the video interview

It’s open secret even on Weibo before the race, he was discriminated against by some swimmers mainly from Aus and US. However it seems Popovici the Romanian star and former 100m WR holder is quite friendly to him.

I mean we could already tell from the Anglo media how they treat Pan and Chinese swimmers.

This was taken after the race. Aus media is so small time they refused to include pan zhanle name and just call him the Chinese swimmer lol. How petty can you be Ffs. They spelled the names of all other swimmers.
