The concept of "Ignorantia juris non excusat". It is a legal term based on concept that is commonly accepted. Ignorance (not knowing and being naive) is not excuse for wrong-doing. A person is always punishable regardless if he/she is truely ignorant or pretend to be. That is how things work in the world.

The everyday example is, if someone stepped on another person's toe, he/she must immediately applogize, maintaining silence or claiming "I did not see" is not enough and will certainly attract "attack". This is common sense.
Great point. If they were ignorant about the offensive nature of those shrines, they should definitely know now. Has any of them apologized or express remorse for their shrine visits?

If they did not intend to purposefully offend China, they're in between a rock and a hard place now. If they don't apologize, they're done in China; if they do, they're done in Japan. The only way to win was to never get into the situation in the first place by staying away from those places.

they are stuck, i dont think they intentionally offend china too. but they cant apologize because it will surely offend japanese. after all, they are japanese. they will just have to let this cool off

Other people have answered in many perspecitves, I will add one thing that hasn't been touched upon.

But in practice it often IS an excuse for wrongdoing. Intention does matter. Some of them are codified in law, such as the difference in punishment for intentionally killing someone (murder) vs. unintentionally killing someone (manslaughter), some of them are up to the judge who often give lighter sentences for those not intending to do wrong.

I agree, they just need to let it blow over at this point.

I'm still enjoying the Olympics! Not from watching Pan's WR performances but from watching videos of Raygun and reading up the humorous commentaries on Tiktok. Contrast her Olympic achievement and Australia's record-breaking number of gold medals and she stood out even more. Comedy gold indeed.

If you feel down and under, look up Tiktok. She wipes the floor with herself.

Raygun had a reason thought by making herself famously/infamously viral. Suddenly it reveals that she has started a promotion agency, represent celebrities and some well-known people have enlisted. She has it well planned. We laughed at her but she is laughing to the bank. Sportsperson seeking lucrative sponsorships will be listing with her due to her and her partner influence in Australian sports.
For your info, her partner is a committee member that select who represents Australia in the Olympics.
Now everything make sense?
